You should put an NSFW tag in front of those, strim - that's some raunchy hardware pr0nz you got there

Excellent progress! Is it booting already?

Some cool stuff! Any indication why it is not booting yet? Except for the obviously missing 030 on the pictures :-P

There's one soldered (U1) on the SMD pads on the right of where the PGA socket should go

68030 is installed in a QFP package. Not booting because CPLDs are still empty .

Actually we do, but fortunately the problem is not that severe and should be correctable with patch wires in this prototype .

Fixed that error, there's one more it seems. Now it's yellow screen . So at least got to Kickstart executing.

Woohoo!

Looking at the exec source:

; Set up the Exception Vector Table. Vectors 2 through 47
; (Bus Error through TRAP #15) are all all set to the initial
; exception handler. If any exception occurs now, the screen
; will turn yellow, the power light will flash, and the computer
; will be reset.

So some unexpected exception.

Yep, got to that, still don't know what's causing it though. jarob is building a second prototype that will only have CPU attached and some wire patches instead of CPLDs... Hopefully it will be easier to figure out what's wrong.

You could build a custom ROM to at least figure out which exception it is :-)

@strim

Have you checked the basics on your board yet?
Are the power supplies clean and stable?
Does the reset signal rise monotonically?
Is your clock reference the shape you expected?
Silly question maybe, have you fitted the correct sequence of jumpers?

Commissioning and testing CPU cards can be interesting and it is all too easy to overlook the obvious. Good luck with your project.
