Speedball 2 help
Hi, I'm new to this board.
I came over this in a frantic search to be able to play Speedball 2 again. Recently a great wave of nostalgia came over me, and I instantly tried to find this game. It lead me to WinUAE, and I found a site where I got some settings for WinUAE. Problem is, I can't seem to find the actual game, Speedball 2. I found one file, but when I load the game it goes blue... and stays like that. I've searched everywhere, but I can't find any other "versions" of the game. Can anyone help me? |

Welcome to the EAB niMic - check out the FAQ for some links to sites which host ADFs:
http://eab.abime.net/faq.php?faq=ami...aq_amiga_games I'd suggest PlanetEmu for multiple versions of Speedball 2: http://www.planetemu.net/index.php?s...dat=257&page=s |

If you still can't get it working, post your config and I'll check it out.

Yeah, I can't get it to work... No matter which version I try (well, tried 4), it either goes black or blue. It might have something to do with the kickstart (as if I understand anything about that, I just downloaded something), but the emulator worked for one thing (not a game, seemed like some kind of test thingy).
I attached my config. |

Can you try enabled 'Cycle Exact CPU and Blitter' in the Chipset section of the WinUAE config?
And are you using the latest download of WinUAE? |

I assume I'm using the latest version, I got it off the WinUAE site.
Edit: That didn't work either :\ Last edited by niMic; 11 June 2005 at 15:55. |

Nothing, you're exactly at the right place but the config you attached was not from the quickstart. Now if I were you I would move the compatibility slider to further left and try that way. Good luck.

Ok.. so I didn't load the old config, I moved the compatibility slider and I tried all my 5 speedball 2 versions. Still various sorts of black-screens. Might it have something to do with my kickstart 1.3? If so, where can I download the correct one?

Are you using an ADF that you downloaded from PlanetEmu? If so, what's the filename?

You're talking about the Speedball 2 ADF, right? If so, they (I downloaded several) are
Speedball 2 - Brutal Deluxe (1990)(ImageWorks)[cr CLS - RZR][a2].adf Speedball 2 - Brutal Deluxe (1990)(ImageWorks)[cr CSL][a2].adf Speedball 2 - Brutal Deluxe (1990)(ImageWorks)[cr CSL][f Ministry].adf Speedball 2 - Brutal Deluxe (1990)(ImageWorks)[cr CSL][t +5 Betrayal].adf |

For Kangoo, I had created a config for a fairly old machine: an A500 with OCS Agnus and only one drive.
It can be found in this thread. Please give this one a try. And please tell us the WinUAE version you use; in particular, sites in foreign languages still offer "new WinUAE versions" which are in fact 0.8.xx versions (yes I have seen this many times) [edit] OK, now I can even reproduce your "blue screens". Please look whether the kickstart ROM you specified in your path (D:\Amiga\WinUAE\Roms\Kick13.rom) EXISTS! The blue screen comes up because WinUAE tries to boot the game WITHOUT a kickstart! (and fails) It might be that you miss some WinUAE error messages in full-screen-mode. Go into Display options and uncheck the 'Full-Screen' box. If you try the same procedure again now, you might get an error message if the Kickstart was not found. Also test whether your kickstart is 100% OK by booting the "Amiga" WITHOUT a disk image inserted! If you see a hand holding a workbench, everything is OK! I think my problem lies with the Kickstart... When I try to start without anything in the Disk Drive DF0, I get "You need to have a diskfile in DF0 to use the kickstart replacement" So, yeah, I think my problem is with the kickstart.
Btw, where did you get that path from? |

You need to have a kickstart 1.3 rom, not a replacement adf for this game to work. You need to tell winuae where it is from the ROMs tab.

If you used the installer to install WinUAE after downloading the latest version from the official WinUAE web site, then it should have set up a set of paths to a number of different directories where it looks for the Kickstart roms, among other things. Those paths can be viewed and changed on the "Paths" page in the GUI (imagine that!). If your Kickstart roms are anywhere other than in the directory listed on that page, you can simply copy them to that directory and click on the "Rescan ROMS" button to enable WinUAE to find them. If you have an existing config file that points to the roms in some other location, you may need to change that separately in the ROMS page after loading that config, but simply putting the roms where WinUAE expects to find them and rescanning should allow the Quickstart configs to work, I think. Hope this helps.
