A real PC floppy drive to use with WinUAE?

The reason I need to know if WinUAE can connect to a real PC floppy drive is this:

I can simply convert all my ADF games to floppies and use them on my Amiga.

Would this be possible at all?

Thanks!

p.s. I simply can not copy over all my adf files to my real Amiga, using the dreaded Serical PC to Amiga connection. (too slow)

Short answer is no. See the FAQs for more details: http://eab.abime.net/faq.php?faq=ami...games_xfer_faq

Not possible unless you have a Catweasel card.

It is possible to convert many adf's to a form that can be transferred to the Amiga either by a serial link, or on 720K MS-DOS diskettes (readable using CrossDos on the Amiga). They can then be written out to real floppies on the Amiga, but there is no way to create the Amiga diskettes on the PC, other than by using the Catweasel. Just how well that works I couldn't say, though I'd bet someone else here could address that. If you're not willing to purchase the Catweasel, then you'll have to go the serial link or the CrossDos route.

No, it's not something you can use with A600

MKIV version is a PCI card with many features, one of which is the floppy controller that lets you read/write amiga floppies. The most sensible way is to use it with your PC.

All of the solutions in that FAQ seem software based. Can I ask if there's a PC floppy drive that could read/write Amiga disks? I know that later A1200's came with modded PC floppy disk drives, is it not possible to use these disk drives, perhaps?

Either way, a floppy drive that could read/write Amiga disks would be very handy, does one exist anywhere? Is it even techinically possible?

Thanks!

I think it depends on the controller, not the drive.

All of them can read any disks, an fdd (attached on a Shugart interface) is a standard computing part from the late 70s...
However the controller in PCs uses a hardware decoder for mfm that can't handle the standard format used on the miggy.

Wow, so the Catweasel can work with Windows, too? That's VERY cool! That's all I'd need to be able to read/write Amiga floppies? That's great, where can I buy it?

Edit: Found a place that sells it in the UK

http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...d8185dee219fc5

But £70 though, ouch! Sounds like a handy piece of kit though!

For those in the US:

$134!

The catweasel is a good card. It allows to read and write amiga disks (dd and hd) among other formats. I´m very happy with mine.
