please answer me this......

MosMensk do you know if I was to put the ADF file of Exile(or any other files which don't work on emulators) onto a floppy via the Amiga, would the floppy work on the Amiga, I've wondered about this for a while now, could you shed any light on the matter?

Thanx

Zeewolf

(Did I explain my question clearly? Do you understand what I'm trying to get at? I've got loads of ADF's which don't work properly on emulators!! Should I delete them?)

hi again

First of all: don't delete your adf files.
Amiga emulators gets better and better.

The problem is that you can't just slap an adf-file on a disk an use it in your Amiga. (I wish you could)
Your Amiga don't know adf files, and an Amiga can't use PC disks.

But all is not lost.
Check out WinFellows ADF help : http://fellow.sourceforge.net/old_ve.../transfer.html

There you can find out how to transfer files from PC to Amiga and vice versa.

I hope this helps.

Wrong ! Amiga 1200 CAN read PC Disk (720 Ko).

- So you just need to compress your ADF (with lha, cause ADF are 880 Ko long),
- transfert it into your amiga memory with a 720 PC disk
- uncompress your ADF into memory
- put a blank 880Ko Amiga disk
- write back bit by bit the ADF into your Amiga Disk

That's all !

ADFs On An Amiga

Here's what I do:

I keep all my games in the ADZ format. They can be read in the emulators and as they are compressed, they save on space.

I then write the ADZ images to CDs in the ISO9660 format. You need to keep the number of characters in the filename to 30 or below, or else it won't read properly on the Amiga.

The CDs can then be read on a real Amiga (with a CD-ROM drive).

Set up FMS (ftp://de.aminet.net/pub/aminet/disk/misc/fms_20.lha). You can use this to set up a series of virtual floppies on the hard disk (FF0:, FF1:, FF2: etc.).

Use Codetapper's DiskWiz (http://membres.tripod.fr/actionamiga/utils/DiskWiz.lha). This utility can handle ADC, ADF, ADZ, DMS, GZip, PKZip and ZLib files.

Set up Directory Opus to use DiskWiz and FMS to manage your ADZ files. For example, you could make buttons which depacks an ADZ file straight from your CDs to FF0: or DF0:.

When I want to send ADFs from my Amiga to my PC, I hook up the CD writer on the A1200 and burn them to CD.

Question for you CodyJarrett....

Do you have to have a hard drive?
I'm asking this because I don't have one.

Thanx

Hard Drive

Yes, I've got a hard drive and extra memory on my A1200, but none on my A500.

Hard disks are pretty handy!

Yes!

Obivously you need a boot disk or a version of Workbench that loads and mounts your CD-ROM driver as CD0: or higher.

Providing you have the tools to convert the ADF image back to an Amiga disk on floppy also then I don't see any reason why not.

o Insert boot disk
o Get into Workbench
o Access your CD-ROM
o Load your ADF program
o Select the ADF from your CD-ROM drive
o Write it to a disk
o Reboot - bingo!
