WTB: 486 or early pentium PC

Hi all!

I am now on the hunt for an old 486 or an early Pentium PC (no more than 100mhz).

I am needing one as my trusty old Olivetti 486 has finally died due to a somewhat "spectacular" PSU blow-out
I have tried looking on the other bay but cannot find anything worth bidding on.... and some are just stupidly over priced I am just looking for the base unit and possibly with a keyboard and mouse, it needs to be in reasonable condition and obviously complete and working (not like the tatty junk on evilbay!).

If anyone has what i am looking for then please PM me and post a few pics.... A 486 or early pentium machine, cheers

... I have also posted this over at amibay

Good luck!

Sub 100MHz x86 boxes are going to be hard to find. People tend to throw them out rather than sell. You can pick up P4 with XP for under a 100, these days. And the few that try to sell PCs this old often have no idea what they're worth.

It might be worth checking out any local e-cyclers. If you speak to the right person, you might well get something for free, or nearly free.

I have some early Pentium parts, a mainboard, lots of 72pin RAM, ISA and PCI video/sound cards, maybe even an ISA LAN card. And probably a PSU. Yours for the cost of post from Australialand to Engaland.

@Overdose Thanks for the offer I also have a few spare bits laying around (ISA, PCI sound and graphics + memory etc....) But i am looking for a complete or near-complete base unit.

If i build an old system then the hardest part to find would be the actual case, i cannot find an old style AT case anywhere! My old Olivetti 486 is 100% proprietary so i can't even use that case

Thanks again for the offer

I have near my home scrap-heap and owner can sell some old and very old PC computers but they're in very bad condition. I found there even one with two 5.25 disk drives but someone/moron cut all wires... Owner of scrap-heap recognize and sell only PC computers, I never saw there Amiga or Atari.

I have some spare 486 motherboards, all 100% working, if you can get hold of the other parts you need.

If you need an AT case, then just look for any Pentium or equivalent or earlier in a 'normal' case.

This:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IBM-Aptiva-E24...3A1%7C294%3A50
Or possibly this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Compaq-Deskpro...3A1%7C294%3A50

If you get really desperate you can get an adaptor for ATX->AT.

@OverDose

That second link with the Compaq Deskpro is mine I am getting rid of it on ebay as i now have no use for it and i need to make room for another system!
I cannot use the case from it because it is 100% proprietary and not AT or ATX standard

Powerpie, if your looking for an AT case i believe i may have one, i'm sure its still in the back room. It had a 486 in that died so i can offer you the case for free, just pay postage which could be done for £8 via parcel2go.com
I know your looking for a complete system and you've been offered one via woodycool over at amibay but if you were interested i could dig it out and put up a photo.

@Scrappysphinx

That sounds good to me, if i can get hold of a case then the rest is easy to find... even Prowler is offering motherboard's for which i am grateful A photo would be good

I am tempted with Woodycool's offer but he does not know the model number and has not yet told me the condition... i have asked a couple of times if you look on amibay

Is your case a desktop or tower? thanks for the offer

I actually think i have two cases when i can get in there tomorrow. They are both tower cases, one is a small midi type and one is a very large (almost like the Amiga EZ tower) case. I will dig both out tomorrow and get a photo up for you. You'd be welcome to both for the cost of postage (as long as they come in under 25kg then it should be able to be sent via parcel2go for around £8).

I'm searching for very old PC which is somewhat similar to Amiga (everything is under keyboard). Example: http://www.8-bit.interbit.com.pl/index.php?id_komp=62

Sorry for the delay PowerPie, unfortunately i don't have the bigger tower anymore but i do have the smaller tower.
The front is yellow (previous owner was a smoker), its a little dirty and will need a clean and it has some sticky pads stuck to the side but other than that its fine.
It still has the motherboard, cpu, floppy and some memory installed. It also has a S3 VGA card and an ISA Sound Blaster Sound Card installed. Im sure the cpu, memory, vga card and sound card work but the motherboard is dead. I believe the battery was a barrel type and it had leaked. As previosuly said its yours for the cost of parcel2go.com postage if your interested.

Could you tell me what is that black hole/blob on S3 card near vga? And two disk drives? Used for Amiga data transfer?

Hey s2325, there is only one floppy disk drive. What looks like a second is actually a blanking plate.
