Roadkill / Zyconix WHDload Sound/GFX problems
I tried to run Roadkill AGA WHDload yesterday and the sound is distorted. This also happens with the CD32-version. I've also got the normal install of Roadkill which doesn't have this problem. Sadly though, I have to run this version with 'boot with no startup-sequence' and execute a script to run it.
I also started Zyconix WHDload. This time the sound and the GFX is distorted. Does anybody have the same problems with these 2 games? |

Sorry, I forgot to mention. On my real A1200. Can it be my turbo board? (MX1230). Other whdload-games work fine. I also have the tooltypes 'noautovec' and 'nomemreverse' activated. These 2 tooltypes fixed most of my problems with whdload-games.

Hmm, could be yeah.
I've got a blizzard 1230IV and definitely don't have any probs with Roadkill, although I don't have any of your specific tooltypes set. Have you tried removing the tooltypes? |

MX1230 sucks I had one and had lots of trouble with games. Got a Phase 5 060 board instead and it worked a lot better.
(I'm not trying to find apologies for the guy who wrote the Roadkill install ) Try nocache too. |

I agree the MX1230 sucks. It's very unstable. I didn't notice this back in the 90's when I got it. It was stable with my rev1b motherboard and kickstart 3.0
But then I got some problems with some whdload-games. With my rev2b (escom) motherboard it's even worse (heating problem). I've also got a GVP 030 board. I'll try that one with my rev1b motherboard (as this board crashes immediately with rev2B) and these games. Let's see what it does. I see you (JOTD) wrote the install Do you have any explanation why the normal install works without problems? |

Well I dunno, but if it works under DOS there's some hope with whdload
I guess different cache settings, different memory locations, and a virtual system where the 1230XA fixes are not active ?? I'd try nomemreverse (alloc memory in the normal order), nommu, nocache. |

Any chance a new whdload-slave can fix the sound distortions in roadkill? The issue occurs also on all ACA turbo-cards I have. There must be a way to fix this right? Because the normal game (with assigns in start-script) works fine....

having the same problems, with whdload 2.1b AGA , distorted sound instead of effects in game, done the same on both my TF328 and 330.
CD32 version 2.1b is fine soundwise. Last edited by xubidoo; 31 March 2020 at 17:20. |

Roadkill definitely has problems with sound, I thought it might just be my 060 causing it though but it seems not.

Here on A1200 040 there are no problem with sound. Some files are (or can be) crunched that may could be checked.

Roadkill Aga version doesn't work properly on my A4000 (060) setup.
Fortunately, the CD32 version seems to work with CD32 Emulator program. I recall having some problems with Roadkill Aga (both WHDload and floppy v) also on A4000 with 040. I guess it should work ok on a machine with 030.. ?! Last edited by macce2; 25 March 2020 at 00:17. |

there was a real bug on roadkill AGA when pausing the game. I have fixed it in whdload install.
I'll check again for sound issues. But when I can't reproduce an issue it's more difficult. Anyone with issues on blizzard 1200/060 ? because I have that setup (real amiga) |

Yes, problems when pausing the game.
Distorted / corrupted sound, when starting the race (level 1; countdown ), and game crashing / freezing soon after ..(both WHDload and floppy version) |

I may have found several potential sound issues.
As opposed as Test Drive II, the problems don't show in Winuae, even with "not nice" setting Toni provided. Sounds were always ok But you can test this slave (AGA/CD32 updated, doesn't matter) on your real hardware and tell me. RoadKill.zip |

Thanks jotd!
With some quick "basic" testing, I have to tell you that unfortunately, it still doesn't work properly. The game doesn't freeze/crash; but after the level start countdown, the sound problem does still exist. More precisely, instead of the proper motor engine sound, there's only strange rustle / sighing. I recall the strange sound to be quite similar, as earlier.. In other words, the sounds corrupt. I tried with various options of WHDload (v 18.5); NoCache, ChipNoCache, NoResInt, NoAutovec etc.. |

I have the same. No engine. Sounds like wind. Similar to the noise you have when looking for a radio station on an old radio. CD32 sound is fine. Only AGA version is distorted. WinUAE, emulating A1200 with 8 MB fast.

Confirmed, the engine sound is garbled in the AGA disk install. Happens in WinUAE and on my A1200 with a 1233n turbocard.
