Batman The Movie v1.4 betatest - MS Windows compatible filenames!
Hello guys, another betatest for you:
V1.4 contains: 1) batmobile control bugfix (I released wrong slave, now it works) 2) slave uses dreamed MS Windows compatible filenames - no more depression with decompressing your archive with wrong names on PC! You have to manually rename the files to make install work: 1) remove all spaces in filenames: "BATMAN " -> "BATMAN" 2) rename files with "XXX IFF" as "XXX.IFF" (XXX is obviously any text before spaces) example: "LOADING IFF" -> "LOADING.IFF" "CODE5 IFF" -> "CODE5.IFF" 3) as you see, only filenames with original name are: "TITLEPRGIFF" and "TITLEPICIFF", others must be renamed. Otherwise game will not find the files and act wrong, without any proper error messages. Thanks for report. |

I like it the old way, its an Amiga Game to be played on an Amiga, on an Amiga HD, on an Amiga CD, on an amiga formated hardfile. The original filenames should be preserved as an original game insall. Theres never a good reason to be depacking the game on the windows side to be played on the amiga or within emu anyway.
Make sure the slave is still compatable with old names !!!! |

Universally supported names are much better
The less hassle it is for users (yes even emulator users), then the more people are likely to use it. Always good |

Surely the installer script can be written to rename the files automatically!
Ball-ache maybe, but best option! |

Filenames are created by RawDIC from hidden filesystem.
I must rewrite disk imager or install script to rename files automatically and I wanted to give you preview joy BTW, Odyssey with one similar MS Win filename fix will be released soon |

I don't care, as long as it still works on my real Amiga. I don't use anything with Windows on it.

I don't mean to insult your effort, but frankly this is beyond ridiculous.
These are Amiga files, if M$ filesystems have problems with them it is irrelevant. Surely the files having their original names is much more important. How often do you go to play a MOD and it won't play on the Amiga because some PC using moron has renamed it to songname.MOD? |

This is great BoredSeal, all though I own real Amigas I do tend to use WinUAE 90% of the time. If it wasn't for WinUAE then my interest in Amiga would have faded a long time ago and I wouldn't have got back into it, like purchasing real hardware. Keep up the great and appreciated work, if you could work on the others that would be awesome too. Last edited by seuden; 04 August 2010 at 09:47. |

Not much point because you should ALWAYS unpack all Amiga archives inside Amiga environment. (real or emulated)

I could bypass this in WinUAE and directly use original filenames (without name mangling) in NTFS partitions but it would surely confuse people when other programs can't access or delete the files |

Unfortunately some users just can't get their head around using AmigaOS (EDIT: on top of Windows). I find it a lot easier to unzip in a Windows environment.
