Super Cars WHDLOAD crash/freeze with ACA 1221 and ACA 620
So this slave crashes/freezes after the 1st level. when entering the cheering audience the game hangs up. I can still use the quit key. Tried version 1.1 and 1.2 and 1.3. Also both 1disk version and 2disk versions.
Game works fine on my Amiga 1200 with ACA 1233. Does not work with Amiga 500, ACA 500 + ACA 1221 and Amiga 600 with ACA 620. I'm sure it would work on the Amiga 500 if I plugged the ACA 1233 in the ACA 500. I heard there are some timing problems in some games when using cards like ACA 1221 and ACA 620. Also using 'Cache' in tooltip prevents the freeze but I see some graphical artifacts and the game can randomly crash. Any new slaves or solutions for this? |

WHY are people compelled to write posts like the one above mine??
Anyway, I just tested this for you on my A600 with ACA620, and it works. Although the screen with the cheering crowd shows absolutely gibberish numbers (this surely is an install bug?) after a few seconds of waiting, it takes me back to the track select screen. Tried both Super Cars v1.1 and Super Cars (2 disk) v1.2 |

I tried Super Cars v1.1 slave with my ACA-1232 (see sig for details), unable to reproduce the problem/bug, it works fine.
However, the game has stuttering scroll, low frame rate, not sure if slave problem or if the game was developed in a high level language (eg. Blitz BASIC). |

I guess I just didn't want turrican9 to feel as though they were being ignored.
Anyway, went out and tried SuperCars on my miggy in the man cave - its the second one in my signature so an a1200 with an unexpanded aca 1221, and super cars slave v1.1 just seemed to work. I loaded it up and played through most of the first level with no glitches or issues I could see and the only tooltip was PRELOAD. That info may well be as useless as my first post but if there is anyway I can help just let me know. |

OK. Just completed first 3 tracks including cheering crowds at end of each race and the garage with no issues at all.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that was a 030 feature, too, so crashing with that on on 020 seems plausible. Also I never seen any advantage to using it. |

Because with cache disabled the game will freeze in the cheering audience screen after the first round.

I see, but you did just say it crashes with it enabled or not. Or did I misread?
I played the game for quite a bit with my ACA620 the other day, and it didn't crash, regardless of which options I have set on (pretty sure I have Cache off because of what I said regarding 030s) |

This does not happen on your Amiga 600 + ACA 620. Strange. ACA 620 and ACA 1221 are known to cause timing issues in a few games. Maybe it's due to you have a different revision of the ACA 620 or Amiga 600 mobo With cache I get graphical errors on the audience screen but it does not freeze. But then I experienced a random crash after a few levels. At least on the A600. Don't remember if I got that on the A500 This does not happen on the A1200 with ACA 1233 or if I put the ACA 1233 in the ACA 500. ACA 1233 does not have these timing issues with certain games. Or so I've read. Last edited by turrican9; 28 September 2016 at 18:54. |

Slowdowns are blitter waits, usually the slowdowns need to be fixed slave-side.

Slowdowns with some WHDLoad games are a known problem for the ACA 1221/620 and indeed the cache tooltype fixes it usually. Not sure if this can fix other problems like crashes or glitches too.
