Super League 2021: Round 4 - Banshee
Banshee [lemon] [hol] Time to take down the 'incredibly evil Styx Empire'. Good luck. It may only have four levels but they are big long detailed ones. Unusually for this genre there are two endings, although they are not much different. And don't forget to use your loop-the-loop (spacebar). A couple of words of warning. We are not using continues and I found it easy to accidentally use a credit when mashing the fire button. Also ADF users be warned. Some cracks have a problem with disk 4, which means level 4 doesn't load and your game is over without a score. I checked the linked ADFs below and they worked for me on a basic A1200 set up in FS-UAE. Of course there is also the WHDLoad. Round Ends: 23:59 (UK Time) on Saturday 3rd April 2021 Rules:

I really struggled to get a good start. Had a few awful goes. Gimme some weapons please. The good weapon drops seem to be in specific locations. And there's loads going on. Just fired and hoped.

I wasn't enjoying it at first found it dull but after second boss you start getting a lot more variety. Long levels |

Wont post more scores now, until at least get to second level. So you are not continually updating the scores |

The build ups are a nice feature and it gives a lot of them. Will have to improve my dodging to get the early game sorted. As you say, it felt a bit easier further into level 1.

The early game is definitely Make or Break.
If you qualify for level 2, I think it gives you a default set of firepower - so if you have too much or not enough, I think it gives a default amount of x4 forward shot. You'll soon find out. |

Had a couple of goes last night to try and get back into the swing of things. Currently not defeating the big first level boss but blowing off the cobwebs. I'm very glad to be playing this again.
I'm going to stream my next go on Twitch tomorrow night (8:30pm if you're UK-based) so tune in if you want to point and laugh at me... 24,394 |

Just a reminder - I am streaming this tonight from 8:30 (see link in my signature) in a probably doomed attempt to gain some sort of respectable score. Come and have a look if you've got nothing better to do but don't expect a masterclass

I thought this game would be easier, I kept doing the button mash and continuing and points reset. So had to get myself use to not doing that, I tried a few times and couldn't get more than 5,000 or 6,000. than i finally broke that and got something to get me on the board.

Finally retrieved my not-really-much-better score from my stream (I fell into the old 'accidentally continued after I died by holding the fire button constantly' trap). I don't know if it was worth the effort really but here we are. At least I reached level two. I will try again but without the pressure of anyone watching...

Still finding the first minute of this game brutal. Made a little progress though.

I had forgotten how good this game is. Tough to start, got to remember not to try to shoot everything I think. |

Yeah, I really like all the different bad guys and the animations.
Finally had a properly good start and got to level 3. Spent most of it with a rubbish gun churning through lives. 72,494 |

26,885 Off the mark at last. My first go was the 22,176 which I thought I would then beat on subsequent goes but actually ended up doing much worse. I don't seem to have ever been offered the opportunity to continue. I have been making sure I don't mash the buttons after I die but not once have I seen anything resembling an offer to carry on playing after my lives are spent. |

Oddly it doesn't offer a continue. It just happens if you hit the button. I think you get 3. A few others have said it will still remember your previous score but I haven't tested it myself.
Really want to make it to level 4. Not sure I can beat this one though. Shmups are not my best genre. |

Got to the fortress but was already bleeding weapons and lives. Didn't stand much of a chance.

61,023 Warming up now. I managed to get off to a good start and keep my lives and add a couple more through the first level. Made it well into level 3, which is easily the furthest I've been in this game, but I was really scraping through and not really amassing many points. I'd be super chuffed if I could make it to level 4 before the round is over. I did have a round where I triggered a continue finally and it is really odd that there is no offer and it does reset your score so luckily it only happened to me on a poor run. |
