For me, Amiga hardware is the only way to go. My hobby is Amiga, not emulation

The same for me, I used emulator only for grabbing some graphics for a website.

I have real hardware but enjoy the practical side of emulation more.

I used to enjoy endlessy fiddling with old hardware, spending a fortune, patching the OS to insanity for tiny performance gains and getting nothing done.
Then I woke up to the expense and the folly, and switched to emulation. Now I spend more time actually playing games and using software. |

I had my problems with the joystick issue on emulation. I now get more comfortable with my x-box gamepad. WinUAE is a great development and I am not sure if I should get up an Amiga for every day gaming. Like wasting the hardware in every day usage. Would be interesting to me if others do, especially when it comes to more sophisticated Amiga hardware.

I have an Amiga to use it. If you're not going to use it, why have it at all? |

Because it's a collectors item as well as a gaming system! People collect star wars figures, doesn't mean they are going to open the box. This system will be handed down to my kids and so on |

I have 3 desktop A1200 miggys. I use more the ones with ACA's -three times a week-. The other has a BPPC/BVision/Subway/ACard/Idefix/Dvd/Delfina... AmiKit Real on Rtg runs wonderful there, but I hardly use it and I could sell it for 1500€, being poor. Why do I still keep it while really I spend 90% of the time with emulation?
Dunno, but I think I can put a lot of blame on this wonderful forum And also... why do I have 3 C=64's when it has been more than a year I don't play any?... (I will, I will...). Last edited by Retrofan; 12 November 2013 at 00:03. |

Again, if you don't use it, why have it? To look at it? Not me, that's for sure. My Amiga is on almost every day. |

I don't see why you're being negative towards people who keep Amiga's and don't use them very much, if it's being looked after, who cares?

It's not my intention to be negative People should do what ever they want with their own things, and I'm not going to tell them what they may and may not do with their own stuff. Just wondering why anyone would have an Amiga if they're not going to use it. Really, there's nothing behind it

I do use it, I've got two and this one is an upgraded system. However I don't use it every day, I'm too busy with my own site and besides my 1TB is full of retro goodness. However I have nothing against people who collect retro systems and don't play them, as long as they look after them.
It's the ones that chuck classic systems in moldy boxes or thrown into the back of a dusty old loft |

real Amiga all the way! you can't beat real hardware.
1MB A500 + CRT for pure nostalgia and older OCS games. 4MB+HD A1200 + CRT for the most fun and AGA exclusives. >16MB >68040 A4000T + LCD for the ultimate hardcore Amiga experience (and WHDLoad). the only good aspect of emulation (UAE, at least) is the ability to map one of the joystick buttons as UP. this makes most platform games more playable. |

I wish I could say real hardware, but I simply don't even have the space for it So emulation is still the way for me. Being able to play the games I love the most from time to time is enough for me.

Of course, a real hardware or emulation, the feeling is not the same ...
but, as we already know, a real hardware will not last forever ... thus emulation will remain as the only possible way as a reminder on good old days. Even today, emulated Amiga seems to be more practical ... no bunch of cables/discs, no "brick on a wire", no need for a special monitor or an CRT ... Also, one can experiment how it would behaving an A500 with an 68020 CPU or having 8MB of fast mem etc., and all that without investing into any of new hardware ... just an cheap pc laptop (or tablet or even a smartphone) one can enjoy Amiga experience everywhere: in train, airplane, even in space ... isnt that fantastic? So, today is not anymore important on what Amiga is running while its behaving like an Amiga, right? Last edited by amilo3438; 12 November 2013 at 12:28. |
