A fast emulator for C64
Hi, I got a copy of Geos 64 and nothing is better than use it in a C64 emulator on a Amiga emulator, is not true?
![]() ![]() ![]() Geos is an incredible graphical interface for the C64, with windows, mouse, icons and buttons, like the Amiga Workbench or the Macintosh System. It comes with a paint program (like MS Paint), a WYSIWYG word processor (like MS Word), a database manager (like MS Access), spreadsheet (like MS Excel), a desktop publishing program, assembler, BASIC language, Forth language and more... http://www.lyonlabs.org/commodore/onrequest/geos.html All this make me think, WHY Commodore do not had this clever idea of producing so many good tools for the Amiga Workbench, if even a 8 bit system with a 1 MHz processor and 64 KB of memory was capable of doing all this! And we are questioning if the graphics chipset is slow because it is planar, if the MC680EC20 cpu is obsolete for today applications, bla bla... ![]() Microsoft was very smart, for producing so many good programs for its Windows. If you want to run GEOS you need an emulator with 100% floppy emulation => slow!

As far as I know Magic64 is the best emulator for Amiga and thats not that great - maybe someone can give more info.
Ive always wanted to try GEOS - With Software for Workbench I agree but dont forget commodore didnt realy produce software and with emulators like ShapShifter you can run Classic 68k Mac OS that has a good selection of Apps including Ms Word/Excel - But I think aleast a decent NotePad should have come as standard with Workbench. |

MagiC64 is very fast and OK but lacks 100% floppy emulation thus most games/demos etc. won't work.

MagiC64 is very fast, even on 68030. If your game doesn't require any floppy emulation the speed should be OK. I used it back in '97 on my 68030/50 A1200 and it was quite usable.

A 68030/50 is probably good enough, my 68030/42 doesn't reach the 50 FPS, app. 45-47.

Frodo was probably the best emu, but even ppc version slowed right down when floppy emu is enabled. I usualy turned it on/off as need be (on for loading - off while playing game)

![]() There are some good Apps for Workbench, Wordworth7,Final Copy-Word Processors and Turbocalc -SpeadSheet still used today with OS4 maybe not up to the same standards but popular. Funny you should mention Atari ST -DTPs were considered better on the ST by some. Edit: obviously the Apps were not made by commodore........ Last edited by Retro1234; 13 January 2010 at 23:34. |

Really, the Amiga has classic programs also and it are remembered even by users of other platforms.
PS. Thanks all for the help with the emulator. Is a bit hard for me to write all this. I do not speak english. I even tried to write a "dissertation" about what I think but is very difficult (for me) to write in english. ![]() And with Commodore, we talk in the past... ![]() ![]() Last edited by Leandro Jardim; 15 January 2010 at 00:21. |

otherwise will run slow and don't reach a good framerate of 1/1 also if you use the playsid.library which is the best for sound a 030 will be so slow |

![]() But for me, I guess now that there is not a good way to emulate a C64 on a low-end Amiga (and even on a high-end amiga its not so good). ![]() ![]() I thanks you all which gave me response, but I think this is all. This is giving so many problems to you all, which I think is better to give up. Bye! ![]() |

@Leandro Jardim:
You can try this one: http://aminet.net/package/misc/emu/TheA64Package It's NOT resource intensive as Magic64 or others. |

Hmmm. I´ve got a nearly naked A1200 (no tower, no gfx-card, just FliFi and 68060)...and Magic64 runs at 100% with sound. With a 68030/50 ist was too slow with sound enabled (no frame-skip of course)
