Happy New Year Day = throw CD32 in the dishwasher day

Sporting new caps and she's all shiny, best leave her for a few days to dry out This one will be up for sale once the plastics are cleaned up too! Watch this space...

You might want to add some extra lens flares here and there for that special shine

This may sound stupid, but you actually stuffed it in the Dishwasher?

I know before I trained as an apprentice engineer at my last job, they used to do this with insurance work when it was smoke damaged, but I never tried it. Didnt think it was very safe for long term reliability.

I think more about Trapped 1 & 2 when it comes to lens flares and game Intro's such as Tower Assault

Yeah, just chucked her in on her own - didn't want her covered in turkey

I know folk do this quite often with old arcade PCBs so thought I'd give it a go, hasn't rusted anything looking at it this morning... removed the KS rom beforehand too...

Just don't use any kind of soap, just plain water and you are on the safe side of things.

I always assumed that anything electronic would be safer away from any liquid. This is a surprise for me.

And how do you apply it? Running water to the board, or diving the board on a bucket? And for how long?

Using bottled water is better than from the regular water supply because of calcareous?

It's honestly a good way of cleaning up old PCB's, and plastics too as long as they aren't too yellowed:

PCB's
-Dishwasher on a low-temp 'eco' wash: 40deg C or so.
-Just water, NO, I repeat, NO dishwasher powder / detergents.
-If you can be bothered it's worth unplugging any socketed ICs first.
-Make DA*MN SURE it's fully dry before firing up again...
...a few days on a sunny table or airing cupboard should do.

Plastics:
-Dishwasher on a low-temp 'eco' wash: 40-60deg C or so.
-Maybe a bit of detergent for this one. Personally I'd not suggest using dishwasher powder/tablets here...
...I tend to 'clean' the plastics by hand, not wash off the suds, then shove the lot into the dishwasher (water only).
-Take care! As a general rule computer cases tend to be made of plastic that won't warp with temperature but flaps 'n doors are often made of heat-moldable stuff that can, um, sag a bit...
...I once got a beautifully 2D RiscPC front flap this way.

Lovely 'n clean BTW Paul_s

And make sure to stop the dishwasher before the drying/heating cycle!

sorry to be thick. but dishwashers have salt in 'em. I take it you don't need to remove this salt before doing the wash?

How about rinse aid, which again is in the dishwasher all the time....

I thought salt had to be added manually to dishwashers if you lived in a 'hard' water area only?

Just fired her up now and she is working great after 2 days drying out I'm not selling her now, she's too sexy!
