Floppy disk Gotek with Action Replay

Probably a silly question but just want to confirm - can I use a Gotek with an Action Replay Mk 3?

On the one hand I figured that if the Gotek can convince the computer itself that it's a real floppy drive then it should equally convince the Action Replay.

But on the other hand I know the Action Replay has super low-level access to hardware and also can be fussy about compatibility (wrong Kickstart, wrong CPU, too much RAM etc).

The machine doesn't know about the gotek at all, so it should work fine. The only problem would be if AR somehow has super tight floppy timings and the gotek is too slow, but I doubt it.

If anything, FlashFloppy's faster than a regular drive.

A Gotek and the firmware it uses is meant to emulate a floppy drive exactly - so it shouldn't be any quicker or slower than a normal floppy drive.

You're right; that is the intent. I do agree that the closer it is to the real thing (a real floppy drive and a real floppy disk), the better it is.

But it is slightly faster. Try a simple benchmark of transfer speed with sysinfo.

e.g. in the analog world, seek times are different each time, and different between drives. FlashFloppy will be far more consistent, and on the lower end of the spectrum.

That's just how it is.
