Higher SCSI IDs = higher priority on the bus. A3000s shipped with the disk as ID6 as default. :-)

It actually makes some difference when there's a lot happening on the SCSI bus, here's a writeup:

Do you have access to a PC with a scsi card? I have a 80-68-50 Pin adapter and the Amiga 3000 won't see the drive. Plug it into a Adaptec 20940 and the drive spins up and works fine.

There needs to be a jumper on the "start cmd" pin, as the Amiga don't know about that command. PC card's like the Adaptec have options to send that command. It starts the drive's motor.

The "N.C" is Not Connected.

No, unfortunately I don't own any Scsi controller for a PC;
although I have been considering buying one.
However, I 'm afraid that the prices have been rising;
I think some older model of controller would do. (!?)

So, with the "start cmd" pins jumpered, the drive should spin up ?!
I tried with that option, too, but couldn't get my drive to work.
In fact, there's no any kind of sign of life on my drive; it may be dead !?
So, there's a small green led on the bottom side of the drive.
When I connect the power cord to the drive; that led should light up..!?
(even without connecting the data cable / adapter ?!?)
It made so at first. Now; nothing.

"Not connected" option - What is that for..?

[QUOTE=Kin Hell;1551562]@ macce2

Simple 50 to 68 pin adapters like the £5.95 eBay affairs, do not terminate the extra 18 data lines (9 are grounds)

See #16 post here back in 2009....

https://www.amibay.com/forum/amibaye...ge2#post159206

& mention of the SCSI Shop on post #20.

Most of the pics are gone from that thread, but the SCSI issue pics survived.

Get one of these and all should be golden, if you have the card set/jumper'ed right.

Thanks for help!

So you think that adapter is one worth buying !?

Maybe I should buy it.

68 Pin to 50 Pin SCSI Adapter Male to Male

I sent an email to the SCSI Shop UK (an inquiry about the Scsi adapter item

and about shipping to Finland, about two weeks ago.)
Still got no reply.

Should they be able to ship outside UK ..?

Have a look on EBay Bromigo! Plenty of adapters at cheaper price than that!

Bromigo! It’s just an adapter that allows a 50Pin to 68pin to work

Here is a 50 to 68pin again on EBay;

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294660305...mis&media=COPY

Still £10 cheaper than SCSIshop. Don’t forget you have a 30 days money back guarantee if it doesn’t do what it says on the tin Mang!

Ok; the hard drive I purchased was propably faulty and i got the replacing new similar one.
The drive only seems to spin up, when I have the START_CMD and DIFF_SENS Open;
and TER_PWR_EN, Id 0 and/or ID1 closed (!).
Setting the NARROW/WIDE to closed position, doesn't seem to make any difference (!?).
However, I ca'nt get HDtoolbox to detect my new drive.

Could it be that the simple Scsi-adapter I use is the problem ..?

UPDATE:

https://www.svideo.com/cc692pt.html

Maybe this one could do the job better ..!?

I really don't want to sound like I'm flogging a dead horse fella....

Unless you Terminate those extra 18 pins on the Drive, above the 50 pins on your controller,
it will never be right. - Trust me.

These are available on Back order according to their site....

https://scsishop.co.uk/product/68-pi...iABEgK6pvD_BwE

Have you tried contacting them?

https://scsishop.co.uk/contact/

Your thread link here:

https://www.svideo.com/cc692pt.html

actually states:

Product Part Number: CC692PT-SP
This adaptor allows you to convert a HPDB68 (MicroD68) female internal drive to IDC50 SCSI chain, or vice versa. It has built-in High Byte Active Termination to terminate the unused 18pins and prevent reflections.

Chances are your other Hard Drive was okay.

Not all SCSI Devices are equal.

@Kin Hell

I appreciate your help.
Yes; I sent an email to the SCSIShop;
but they have't responded yet.
I'm not sure, what I should do.
I investigated some US sites which did have some Scsi stuff
for sale; but the adapters with high byte termination seemed to all be unavailable.

I'm still a very happy user of SCSI in my Amiga. I use either SCA SCSI drives, SCSI2SD v5's or the ACARD ARS-2000SUP.

The SCA drives are a bit cheaper usually and I personally have good experience with the SCA-50p adapters in my 3000 and on the WarpEngine SCSI controller. They're a few euro or so and have TERMPWR jumpers. Also, on one of my Quantum Atlas drives I have some small jumpers on the PCB on the bottom that need to be set to 'SE' I believe. But I know there's still people with issues, I might be lucky with the adapters.

The SCSI2SD v5 works great on everything I've tried (even using AMIX) and also does the ACARD thing (has a laptop 2.5 drive in it).

Still haven't got a reply from SCSiShop.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/13353481363...MakeTrack=true

Maybe that item would do the job; with a proper connector gender changer (for standard 50-p ribbon Scsi cable connector (female) ) ..?!
Shame the shipping costs from USA are so high nowadays ..

That's an external converter... will take another convertor to make that an internal 50p ribbon connector.

Would something like this not work better directly on the drive? This one does not list high-byte termination but the same product at different stores does.
