Garrison - Ultimate Edition (Halloween release)
Hi folks, a treat for you (or is it a trick?, the game is not actually the best in existence ).
There are ghosts, demons, deaths, sorcerers, and all sorts of magical creatures in the game, so what better day for a release? Keep Calm and say Boo!, I presents to you: "Garrison - Ultimate edition" This single ADF contains the Garrison boot/intro disk and the two available scenario disks (Garrison I and Garrison II - The Legend Continues), plus a nice cracktro/trainer. So originally 3 disks in total (or 4, depending on the edition). All was born in this thread: https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=108475 Thanks to the inspirers and beta testers. Yes, this is the "SuperMegaDeluxe 1 Disk release" as defined here: https://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p...7&postcount=15 It contains the enhanced 1MB version, it is decrypted/cracked, fixed for all memory configurations, 68k processors, KS and patched here and there. Each scenario contains 128 levels, so you have 256 possible levels to play. There is also a trainer available who helps 'partially' in in the game progress . Partially because I have deliberately decided not to set Timer or Health to "infinite" but only to maximize it (but hey, you are practically immortal ). The level selector is peculiar because the game use a 'quasi-random' selector for the mazes. When you start a new game only few level are available that explodes to the full 128 designed when you prosecute on your quest. Basically trainer level selector define how you advanced the game, so the difficulty, excluding the easy mazes. (my advice is to use it just to get an idea of what the advanced levels are like, randomly, but don't expect like most games to 'get to the end' because there is no end ) Now loading times are basically non-existent (after the initial one, try the original game..) because data is cached compressed in virtual sectors directly in RAM. No support for the 512KB version, if you want to play this crippled version use the old available release (or IPFs). Data are extracted directly from original IPFs disks as the available ADFs are possibily sligtly bad (see the mentioned thread). Hi score save to real floppy/ADF is supported and a proper NTSC support. Look for this game release into the Zone! To all old farts on EAB, have a Happy Halloween! |

Thank you ross . The game is Ok, on par, or even better than Gauntlet's 16-bit ports technically speaking. Just a thought, they could have polished a little bit more the characters distinctive abilities e.q. the Dwarf and the Warrior using the same weapon, or lacking any close combat ability in order to destroy the generators by bumping into them . For such dungeon crawlers, it is important to compensate the repetitive nature of the gameplay with a plethora of little inventions, which come in rather small numbers in Garrison compared to the coin op original. Anyway, I am glad Gotek users can now sink their teeth into this game since playing from the IPF's is not an option.
Who in their right mind would regret this omission ? Not even Twin brothers who usually enjoy playing a game with look alike characters in 2p mode simultaneously I guess! On a more serious note, the fact that, back then, buyers of the original with unexpanded Amigas were tricked into thinking they could enjoy the game just the same is pretty crass opportunism, shame on you Rainbow Arts! Oh, sorry, that's what I came up to.
However, the attached thumbnail pic containing some pumpkins etc. made me ask this. That's already more than enough in that version, don't get me wrong, please. I guess the disk is already "quite" full packed... Guess i'd need some friend to play this Garrison Megaversion, I think. Awesome work ross ! I really appreciate it. Thank You ! |
