Amiga 500 Mini?

Hello,
Do we know of an Amiga project like C64 mini to be materialized some day? I think Cloanto was supposed to bring something like a mini Amiga 500.

All I've ever seen are occasional threads here about what one would be like. I've never heard of any actual effort to make one, either by Cloanto or the community.

The same company that did the "The64" also teased a "TheA500" some time ago on their facebook page. Not sure if anything will ever come out of it.

When you say teased, did they provide any kind of info?

They provided a silhouette picture of an A500 taken at an angle, and said "coming soon". Haven't seen anything else, but I admit I haven't been following - I am not in the target audience for this.

Im not triggered either for a closed pre-configured system with fake keyboard, similar to C64 mini. Especially when I have real Amigas, a Pi and soon a Mister.

But who knows...

Well, they probably learned the lesson with the 64 mini, as they released the full size 64 later with working keys. But at the same time I doubt they will go through the hassle of producing new A500 cases from scratch though..AND working keyboards.. We've seen how long it takes A1200.net to deliver.. So unlikely to happen.. Unless they made a deal with A1200.net of course
Its a weird one this.. Don't quite know what to make of it. I fear a half assed attempt wont bring anything useful to the community/market. it would be better if they reached out to some of the people who are already involved in the various projects out there and help bring out something that's actually useful.
If its targeted for some mass market they think exist and at the same time aim for a low cost, it probably wont be good..

I'm not totally sure that it would have to go the way A1200.net's projects have gone.

There are lots of places that can produce injection molds and injection molded plastic from specifications. It is just a matter of finding one that can do it and paying them to do it. I'm sure the volumes that those the64 folks push out will make it reasonable for them to pay enough for someone to churn out thousands of cases. Most likely they will contact a totally different kind of shop than A1200.net did, instead opting for some kind of Chinese one stop ODM that can produce the whole thing for them.

At least the 64 emu console cases are not compatible with the original computer, so I have no reason to expect that the potential Amiga one would take an A500 motherboard either. :-)

I think the "The64" full size case is actually a VIC20 replica, not c64 for some reason. But with some creative modding cases could probably be made useful. I hope this will be the case with whatever this one turns out to be (if anything)

Yeps, if they manage to make them the same size, it's a matter of cutting out the holes for ports and gluing down extra standoffs to match the motherboard screw holes. But I was thinking unmodified. :-)

The larger The64 also had a USB c64 keyboard, which apparently is quite standard USB HID. There is hope that if they end up making a "The500" or whatever, that might also have some kind of USB keeb that we could potentially leverage for old machines. :-)

Here is more info on A500 mini...

The next mini console is the Amiga 500, which comes with Worms and Chaos Engine

The A500 Mini will be released in early 2022 and will cost $139.99 / €129.99 / £119.99, creator Retro Games Ltd announced on Tuesday. In the UK, it’s available to pre-order now at Game.

The retro console will include 25 classic Amiga games built-in, including Worms, The Chaos Engine, Another World and Simon the Sorcerer.

Players will also be able to insert a USB stick with their own Amiga ROMs and play those too, with full WHDLoad support (which lets players install Amiga games to a hard disk).

Only 12 of the 25 games have been confirmed so far. These are:

Alien Breed 3D
Another World
ATR: All Terrain Racing
Battle Chess
Cadaver
Kick Off 2
Pinball Dreams
Simon the Sorcerer
Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe
The Chaos Engine
Worms: The Director’s Cut
Zool

I really wish they started with full size one, like THEC64.

If there is any community that will run with this and make it do things it was not supposed to, it is this wonderful Amiga community. The case itself might be nice to house a pi if you did not want to use the builtin system.

I think I am good with Pi400 and MiSTer FPGA. I would get this only if they have proper Amiga keyboard, not this mini shit...

Yeah me to. I have the pi400, but a MiSTer would be nice. Maybe when my real Amigas give up the ghost I can replace the boards with that.
