Remove white MuEVD bands?

Hello

I am using the MuEVD video driver with Shapeshifter on my 030 Amiga 1200, which limits the screen width to multiples of 32.

With the image fitting the screen width wise, the height proves to be too short. This isn't a big problem, but it results in white bands at the top and bottom of the screen.

Is there a way to turn these bands black to make them less conspicuous? Also, I've read that many consider the Savage 030 video driver to be the best; is this still available anywhere?

Thanks!

Welcome. I have legal keys and permission from the author to sell them. Price £ 7. I have a version for 030, 040-060 and PPC processors.

Hello

Thanks for your response! I have tried the demo version of Savage 030 included on this CU Amiga magazine cover disc, which is limited to a 512 by 384 screen.

https://archive.org/details/cu-amiga-super-cd-rom-21

There doesn't seem to be an improvement over MuEVD. It plays neither Marathon or Doom II (the former crashes, the later is slow and the lower half of the screen seems to update later than the top half).

Is the performance of the commercial version likely to be the same?

Thanks!

EDIT: Thanks for the reply daxb but there doesn't seem to be a full version of Savage 030 at the link you shared, unless I'm missing something.

I run my MuEVD driver at 672x448 in NTSC high res laced which gives me almost a full screen image without scrolling - there is a tickbox in the graphics settings called "black border" which does what it says on my A1200.

Welcome. I have version 1.51. There are no limits on the resolution.

I was going to mention the "Black Border" option, but got sidetracked with other stuff on EAB

Thanks. I had already tried the black border option but it makes no difference. Should Savage 030 run Marathon? As I said above, the demo version doesn't.

I also have bblank running on my A1200 which may have an effect on the Shapeshifter black border setting.

Thanks, I had the same problem and bblank fixed it ("Black Border" option has no effect with MuEVD).

Edit: Better advice below.

On a native screen or a P96 screen? I suggest reading the MuEVD.guide, in particular about its preferences file in ENV:MuEVD.prefs, and in particular about the BORDERBLANK option therein.

I shamefully confess I didn't look at the MuEVD.guide, only the install notes which doesn't mention MuEVD.prefs, so I hadn't even copied the file to ENV:

No white borders with "BORDERBLANK yes" option. Bblank not needed. Thank you.

Thanks for your responses everyone!

With the MuEVD.prefs file in the ENV-Archive directory, in the Workbench Prefs drawer, the black border option seems to work.

While we're on the subject of the MuEVD video driver, how much better is MuMove4k/MuFastZero supposed to be when compared to PrepareEmul? I'm not sure if I notice a difference. Discworld slows down when the camera pans and the frames noticeably draw from top to bottom. Is that likely to be the best I can expect with an 030 card?

Thanks.

There is no speed involved in this patches. They just allocate/reserve the first few kilobyte of chipram.
