Greetings,
I have two Amiga 1200 boards here, one REV 1.D1, one REV 1.D4. Enverex already told me that 1.D4 has some disadvantages, but I'd like to hear some pros and cons. Everything related to those two board revisions is appreciated, technical details, experience stories, etc. etc. Thank you in advance, -- Markus |

The 1D4 board is marginally smaller, since the joystick port area of the circuit board has been removed in favour of a plug on extension lead. Hi-res scans of the various revision boards, and the necessary board fixes can be seen at: http://www.amiga-hardware.com/a1200.html The removal of E123C and E125C sharpen up the transition of the 7MHz and _CDAC signals which the clock generation part of the budgie chip passes to the Alice chip. The XR358 mod is mainly to improve stability if you are using an external Genlock if I remember correctly. Some boards seem to need the mods when an accellerator is installed, Though I have a Budgie Rev1 1d4 board here which has a 66MHz 060 Blizzard installed, and hasn't had the mods performed, and has worked solidly for the last 8 or so years. Go figure! Cheers, Red |

There are clock timing issues with 1d.4 boards, alot of accelerators wont work with them (Random crashes etc).
I had a 1d.4 board and a magnum 040/25 for many years and never had any problems! |

Thank you for your replies. I own both boards and intend to keep both as well. Additionally to any hints I get I'll also throughly test both boards before I decide which to use first. I have been putting off the building a case part so far, but I vow betterment (some time).

Erm... I doubt there is a prob :P
I also had a Powerflyer attached with 1xHD and 2xCD Drives for years too. The board was quite stable really! Although my cousin had a 1d.4 board too, and his was always crashing with an Apollo 020/28 and 3.5" HD.. SO I guess it's the luck of the draw! |
