S'okay
Tearaway Thomas was a really fun and fast platformer. I was an okay game, I actually quite liked it.
I'm not so sure about Wings. IMHO it had limited gameplay and took ages to load. It really was a pain to play. So much disk swapping. For Biplane games Knights of the Sky was brilliant. |

Na...
Wings was much better than Knights of the Sky......
It was great as you had lots of different missions to do from strafing to bombing to escorting to actually taking on about 8 planes on your own. This is one of my all time favourite games. I never really got into Knights of the Sky, probably cos I liked Wings so much. Zeewolf |

Wings Vs Knights Of The Sky
Well, Wings and Knights Of The Sky are both great...
You can't really knock Wings for disk accessing, as it does install to hard disk. Wings is more of an arcade game and Knights Of The Sky is more of a simulation, so they are both somewhat different. Following the storyline of Wings is fun, as are the sub-games. However, Knights Of The Sky is more expansive, with a large area to fly around. Limping back across the Flanders Front, after completing a mission, with your engine shot to pieces is always challenging! |

I can knock.....
Wings for its disks access. Unlike PCs, Hard Drives for Amiga's were a luxury. It is not good enough for programmers to say "yeah we know there is a lot of disk swapping, but if you installed it to a Hard Drive there would be none" IIRC Knights of the sky can be installed to the hard drive as well and it can be a multiplayer game as well. Not that I had the hardware to test that out.
I didn't have a hard drive for my Amiga, I got the machine when I was 11 and by the time I was 16/17 it was broken there was never a time when I could have afforded a hard drive. I prefer Knights of the Sky for the reason that you could go anywhere. The learning curve was good. It started off fairly easy and you quickly moved your way up the kills table and missions were fairly simple. BUT as the war got on and as your rep grew it became harder and harder. I don't think I ever managed to get to the end of the war. Wings was a fun game but the inability to go anywhere and the fact that you had to swap disks a lot between games made playing it not so great. Knights of the Sky had a nice intro as well, brilliant little piano piece which suits the period very well. Knights of the sky was the most complete game and I suppose how much you enjoy each of the two games in question depends on what you look for in games. In flight games I think I look for realism and freedom more than restrictive gameplay and cartoonish graphics. |

About Tearaway Thomas..
I have played Tearaway Thomas a lot. It is one of the fastest games I have seen on my beloved Amiga 500.
Graphics are cute and scrolling is very fast. The music is jolly and gameplay is great. The game has one big fault, though: Lack of variation. If I remember correct, the game has six worlds each consisting of ten levels. After collecting diamonds the first thirty-three levels I want some variation but don’t get any. Overall Tearaway Thomas is technically a great game but it offers no long term lastability to keep me entertained. Tim |
