RGB -> VGA resolution question.
Hi,
I've recently ordered a VGA adapter from Amigakit. What I want to know is, what resolutions can I expect to see working? It would be great to have 800x600 or something close to that. This is exclusively for enhancing Workbench use, because I'm getting tired of the crappy composite video output. This will be used with my CRT SVGA monitor, and I'm aware that this monitor won't sync down to 15 Khz (have a video box for that). Any pointers are appreciated Last edited by Thorham; 23 November 2010 at 11:44. |

hmm not clear on exactly what you have purchased, is it a 23pin RGB to 15pin VGA adapter? Amigakit link
If so these cables only allow you to plug a VGA cable into an Amiga. They perform no scan doubling. This means that if your Monitor does not handle 15khz (PAL/NTSC) signals, then with this adapter, it still wont. BUT for WB use You can use screen modes like DBLPal DBLNTSC Euro 36Hz and 72Hz Multiscan/Productivity Super72 VGA Only Available resolutions described here Please note that this is just an adapter, the RGB signal is passed unaltered to the monitor. So if you are using a VGA/Multiscan monitor (which usually starts at 30 kHz) with it, you have to use an appropiate screen mode, i.e. DblPAL/DblNTSC or Multiscan Productivity. A normal VGA/Multiscan monitor is not able to display PAL or NTSC screen modes. From Vesalia. |

Thank you, that list of resolutions is exactly what I'm looking for
I'm aware that this adapter doesn't do scan doubling and I've got a video box for that (composite/svideo -> VGA) Are there any ways to tweak those resolutions with some software? |

It's an AVerTv Box7. Has compoiste video in, s-video in, SVGA through and a built in TV tuner. I'm currently using it mostly for connecting my Amiga to my monitor through composite video (I don't watch much TV). Good enough for games and demos, but certainly very sucky for Workbench applications (although doable).

I read that on some tvbox the vga-in is a passtrhough and in others is not a passtrough...so 15hz modes will work post later if works |

Nope, sadly the box doesn't scan double
Anyway, is there a way to make custom screen modes? I'd like to use the resolution I'm using now, but the standard monitor drivers don't offer the option. Seems it should work, because I'm just using a 15.something Khz mode (high res lace+overscan). |
