I never really got into Pirates! gold, so I'm With pirates too.

As for Port Royale 2. There's other Pirate games around too. A game called Pirate hunter apparently plays a lot like the old Pirates, and there's word that a new Pirates! is going to be out early next year.

Has to be Pirates! I started with the C64 version, but missed it badly so I bought it on Amiga. I only tried the gold version recently and didnt like it at all and it reminded me of the Snes version. I went back to the original, I couldnt even guess how many months of solid play I've put into that game.

Just a correction. I played port royale 2 enough to realize it sucks. Strongly NOT recommended. The prequel was OK.

I bought Port Royale 1, but had to take it back because I couldn't get it working - on either my AthlonXP 1800+, or my wife's P4 laptop.

This is the only PC game I have had problems with since DOS days... I think I read somewhere online that it has some flaky programming, apparently makes it very picky what it will run on.

The original Pirates! was my fave, on C64 & Amiga. Never saw Gold until the PC, & there it kind of sucked.
And yes, there is a new "Sid Meier's Pirates!" coming out soon... they had a pre-order thing in the EB catalog...
