I keep my gaming to my Amiga's, C64 and some dosbox for pc adventure games.

I still cant stand that apps lock busy waiting when doing heavy processing and even worse it can busy wait the other desktop apps. The ui doesn't seem to be fully multithreaded still.

Amiga questions you've always been too embarrassed to ask

I've got the 2012 i7 mini 8gb ram with a DIY fusion drive and rarely ever see the beach ball. Prior to adding the SSD I did see it more often so I think the disk subsystem makes all the difference.

I do agree that the disk subsystem definitely has a lot to do with the busy wait lockups.

My A1200 original was really heavy. Wen it broke I a used one from an A500 and that was really lightweight compared to the original brick.

The A500 one seemed so cheap that I had do ask the guy in the shop if it is really powerfull enough fo the A1200. ^^

That was at least to some extend embarrassing. ;-)

But it worked for years untill on I modified an old PC brick.

The A4000 design was originally a mid-range AGA machine with Zorro 2, but I seem to remember it would have been in the thousands range had it been released without the eventual bump to A4000 spec.

Perhaps A3200/A3400, perhaps not. The Amiga history site's information says that the 3200/3400 were ECS machines.

The black A4000 already had A4000 written on the motherboard, so they had the model number locked down pretty early on.

Has anyone tried checking the motherboard on an early A4000? The Amiga 600 was originally to be called A300, I know 'cos both Amiga 600's I own have A300 printed on the motherboards!

Hi:

Is it possible to rename the volume name of your only partition from Cli?

how can i get amiga audio to output the same on both speakers. Instead of being in separate speakers.
Tried a stereo Phono to Mini jack cable and they were still in separate speakers.

A600 and A1200 (maybe others?) will mix the two channels into one channel if you only insert one RCA plug into the Amiga. Then you can use an RCA splitter to split this mono signal into two channels.

What’s the correct driver bit to open a 1084S?
I’ve got to buy a long shaft driver for mine, so might as well get the right one if someone knows!
Cheers, Art.

That's a good question and I guess the answer is no.

It would either be a DoublePAL/NTSC/VGA only game or it would use the copper mid scan line to feed Paula with an additional sample word. I doubt any developers bothered or even knew it could be done.

This said, it is a feature I have the intent to use in my current project so there shall be at least one at some point in the future.

Why would anyone want to convert a stereo computer to mono? Very strange idea.

@hewitson

I am using 2xa600's like dj decks with pt1210 and hooking up to a venue pa system sometimes mods sound crazy in separate speakers in a night club.

One speaker playing 2 channels works on a domestic setup but on a 4k PA system in a big space I would rather have drums in both speakers.

Also when mixing sometimes the drums are in opposite headphones.

I used a default screw driver (inclusive isolating shaft) to open (four screws) a 1084S. Nothing special needed.

Playing/using sound samples in 44,100 hz with paula in games is just a waste of memory and cpu time. It also doesn`t sound much better copared to 28kHz or 22kHz.

Convert a stereo computer to mono is only usefull if you want to use headphones (left-right bias). While playing modules or game sound effects for example.

I actually have been looking for a stereo to mono converter for a few weeks without success as well.

Many of the Commodore monitors only have mono input, being able to mix the stereo output of the miggies into mono is thus a necessity unless you like playing your games with only half of the music and sound effects.
I guess that's precisely why later Amiga models did the mixing automatically if only one connector was plugged in.
