Light Weight File Manager?
I'm looking for something that will run in under 200k of ram, dual screen listing, copy/move/delete/New Drawer, much like a dumbed down version of DOPUS or FILER.
I don't need any robust tools, just what I listed above. I need to move and organize data visually but I'm down to 300k ram after booting because of my screen resolution (640x400 interlaced) and Cross Dos (takes almost 200k to have a dos zip disk inserted). Yes, I only have 1MB CHIP total. Thank you for any help in locating a program. ~S |

i still prefer Diskmaster - latest was 2.1c - this has some trouble with the 2000+ date.
an updated version can be found on aminet - but this one is not bug free. zoned: DiskMaster v2.1c (Progressive Peripherals) (1991).dms |

FM2.2 doesn't need any libraries to run. FM2000 is not very lightweight.

Another vote for DirWork, been using version 1.51 since the 90s.

Nice list. I suppose I'm going to try them all. Thank you very much everyone. I will report back on my conclusion and choice.

So far none of them work. It appears as though the least intense of them (I think it was ABCdir) needs at least 300k to run.I suppose I just have to wait until one of Kipper's boards can be purchased. I can't seem to figure out how to place an order for this. - A508IDE Fastmem with IDE (http://www.kipper2k.com/a500fastmem.html).

@Galahad/FLT
How long (amount of char) filename you mean ? As I remember max number of char in filename is 107. Check out dos/dos.i and structure FileInfoBlock there is a Code:
STRUCT fib_FileName,108 ; Null terminated. Max 30 chars used for now |

FM2.2 balks at over 30-32 chars. It's not anything to do with modern filesystems.
I once had the dream of resourcing it and fixing this + a few other bugs, but the project didn't get far. I still have the .rs file somewhere on my A3000's HD. Maybe one day. :-D With the help of Stingray we found out that the majority of the tool is in a powerpacked data block with a modified header. I guess that would be the starting point, build a version that is fully unpacked and start working from there. |

Consider not using interlace mode and also, how many hard drive partitions do you have mounted? The least you have the more RAM you free up.
DirWork is TINY! |
