BNC To RJ45....Is it Possible ?
I have a Hydra Ethernet card for my Amiga but it has coax BNC
style connecters on it.Is it possible to connect this card straight into my pc hub which takes RJ45 style connecters ? Obviously the idea of this is for my Amiga to hook into my Pc network and use my Adsl connection to surf the net ! Any ideas.... |

I'm changing to 1mbit ADSL and getting a router in the next week, is there any reasonably priced network interface I can get for the A1200? I suppose it would have to be PCMCIA.
Fast filetransfer would be really peachy. |

I have an old transciever that connects coax to a hub, has a special connection on it and the hub needs the same connection.
Alot of the older 10 base hubs have this port. Thats what the connection on the hub and transiever look like. |

Now the connector that is shown in the pic is for an AUI connector on say a Cisco router or a CSU/DSU. We used these a lot at the ISP I used to work for. Mainly like you said, it converts the one type of interface and signal into some other type of interface and signal. Normally these tansceivers had an RJ45 instead of a BNC connector Last edited by jmmijo; 16 April 2003 at 06:22. |

You need to be careful about which one you buy. I got a Kingston one, and it works great. I guess you would just have to configure this against the router and I can't see any possible problems... |

Get the cnet.device from Aminet:
http://www.aminet.net/hard/drivr/cnetdevice.lha In there, it lists all the compatible cards. Here is the readme: http://www.aminet.net/hard/drivr/cnetdevice.readme I told them the Kingston KNE-PC2T works (this is the one I have) months ago, so I am not sure why they have only just had it confirmed by somebody else, but still... I don't know where to get one if you don't want to use ebay (where I got mine). I paid £14. Pretty shocking that Amiga retailers used to sell these cards at £80 because people didn't know you could use normal ones... Maybe it was the software... |

Eyetech do one for about £58. Way too much for what it is. I can get PCI cards for £8! New!

Complete rip off. Sorry Eyetech, that that is really not on.
My Kingston card was *new* and £14. Sorry, I forgot to mention that. I bet they use a repackaged NE2000 compaible card too. Hmm 300% of pure profit, nice. I guess it shows to find out about these things! Last edited by fiath; 16 April 2003 at 15:16. |

Such a solution is pointless, even if it did exist (which I doubt).
When using parallel/serial connections to the internet you use SLIP or PLIP (serial and parallel respectively). All you need to do is set up a RAS server (in the case of SLIP anyway) and get your Amiga to connect via that. It works, but is obviously only as fast as your serial port, i.e. pretty damn slow. Parallel would obviously be faster, but I don't know what PLIP support is like for the Amiga. Update: Obviously using SLIP/PLIP you need an internet connected host. I use SLIP pretty much every day to allow my Psion use my PC's internet connection via both computers serial ports. |

It should but ask the seller if this fits a standard 15 pin AUI connector on a NIC first
