Getting two floppys to work on a A4000D

Yesterday I took my Sony MPF920 z 1M1 and followed Kipper2ks guide how to adapt the drive to work on an Amiga.

I followed this: http://eab.abime.net/hardware-pics/4...x-amiga-2.html made by Kipper2k on 27 .06.2010.

It's for a 161, and mine says 1M1 but they look identical as far as I can see.

I even got it to work(although it was my second attempt, but we will not talk loudly of the one I ruined *cough*).

My problem is that I can't get the both floppys to work at the same time.

There is a good possibility that one of the operations I did, turned the Sony into a DF0 drive, as I couldn't find out what the different steps actually did.

I untwisted an old floppy cabel, as I think I read somewhere that this is necessary, but I also tried with on where end connection is twisted, with the same result.

The other floppy is a Teac FD-235HF It's connected via "The real HD-Fix", by someone called T. Hirsch.

As far as I can make out, this will enable me to use HD floppys, but unless it's possible to use reformated 1.44mb pc ones, I don't have anyone to test this with.

There are 3 set of pins that can be shortened, but I've not managed to find out what they do, although I have tried to shortened the 2 other possisions on the off chance that they turn the drive to a DF1. No success however.

As mention earlier they each work fine, regardless of what connector I use when only connecting 1 at a time, but when connected together 1 appears dead, with no reaction when I insert a floppy. The other is searching, as I can hear the clicking sound, but when inserting a floppy it continuous to click.

It will not read the floppy.

I've shortened the j351 pin(?) on the MB to allow for DF1.

So do I need to reverse the step from Kipper2ks picture, or is there something else that's causing this.

Yes, if you blindly followed the instructions, it will become a select 0 drive.

Amiga floppy cables should have 4-6 twisted.

Your options here are:
Either make your Sony drive answer to DS1 by swapping the short circuit from JC30 (DS0) to JC31 (DS1). The solder pads are a bit to the left from the big blue three pin ceramic blob near the data connector of the drive in Kipper's picture.

Or twist pins 4-6 and 10-12 of the floppy cable, connect the drive you want to show up as unit 1 after the twist.

I can't remember the details of the real hd fix, but it will affect only the drive it is connected to and can't be connected to any random mechanism you find, only the one it is plugged into now.

I tried to swap the JC30 to JC31, and now it's sort of worse, as the Teac is the only one that works, and then only when it's connected alone.

Can hear the clicking sound, but when inserting a floppy, you still hear the clicking sound.

Maybe my soldering wasn't as good as I first believed. Have to try to test for possible errors later.

A little update.

Connected the Sony to a A1200. First alone, and then with the original floppy.

When alone, it didn't work, and when together with the original both of them tried to read the disk, but was unable to do so.

THey started to read, and then either DF0??? or DF1?? showed up depending the disk I tried.

Jope: As for the Teac. I am aware of that, but what I was hoping was that someone knew what the pins did, so I could set it to DF1, and see if that did work. As I have made the Sony a DF1 again, that is moot.

If it hadn't been for that it worked alone when in DF0 mode, I would have binned it as broken by now.

Can you post a pic of the Sony's circuit board for us please? Perhaps you're overlooking something obvious.

Here is the picture- Getting a closer look, it might be the solder close to sh1 that is the problem.

Made a few attempts again today, after tryung to solder JC31 again.

No luck, and I give up the attempt after spending more time than a single floppy is worth.

Thanks for the help though.
