Amiga program to Read MP3 Files ?
what program can I get to enable my Amiga A1200+68030 accel to Read MP3 files?
currently I am using a program named "Eagle Player" but cant read MP3 only WAVE files. Is there any place where I can download such program that reads MP3 files on the Amiga so I can play music MP3 tunes? Thanks |

Yes youre right, I just tried AmigaAmp with my A1200 with 68030 accell and the sound came out stuttered, I suppose the only thing I can do is the convert to WAVE first and then play on amiga
Luckily It got 4 GB HDD so can fit a few WAVE files while still retaining ample space for other Miggy programs |

If you have 64 or more Mb Ram then you can try to have the mp3 unpacked to AIFF in Ram and play it from there. Otherwise the best you can do with your 68030 is to play a mp2 at ´low quality´ at ´22 khz´ in stereo with Songplayer .. been there, tried it ...

Eagleplayer can play MP3s with the right engine - but you still won't have enough CPU power.

u can try a different ahi mode, try songplayer (search for it), settings in amigamp can also be tweaked (also songplayer)..

Thanks for all the feedbacks!
I will try each of your suggestions tonight and see how it goes. Meanwhile I'm eyeing a decent Miggy Tower Setup at ebay, to compnesate my current-lacking-power A1200 |

My A1200D miggy with Blizz 1260 can play mp3's with no problemos, the CPU load is about 40-50% when playing 192kbps mp3 files so give it a try Keropi!

I used DelitrackerII with the right codec. It works fine on a A1200 030/50 but at lower rates and mono. Still, good laugh, but bear in mind not to touch the mouse during playback...

Does an A1200 with "Blizzard 68040 FPU 68040+68882 (CPU running at 30 Mips)" will suffice to run AmigaAmp and play MP3 files normally?
If it will, There is this chap wanted to sell his blizzard 68040 to me. Cheers |

Wow, the mighty Amiga 030 can actually play mp3s!
What next? Shall we try to play a wav to C64? |

I'd say you'd be able to get pretty good quality out of that. |

Isn't the sound output a limiting factor on an amiga with out a separate soundcard?
Havn't checked the freq output range (wasn't there a roof around 12khz?).. but most mp3s can probably be optimized a lot for common amigas and save a lot of cpu by not decoding that many kbps. |

Spiff, that's very true. AHI, required for AmigaAmp, has settings for the Amiga Paula chip. Obviously the best options exist when you have a soundcard. Songplayer can be used without AHI.
The roof for Paula is around 28Khz, but if I remember rightly certain screenmodes (say DBL-PAL??) allow for much higher frequencies. |
