Monitor power switch?
Hi all,
Recently bought myself a very clean Philips CM8833 MK2 monitor. Everything was working great until the power switch decided to stop working. Basically, it works like an in-out toggle but now refuses to stay in! grrr (The screen stays on if you hold it in) Does anyone know of an easy fix for this? I haven't opened it up to have a look yet. Thanks then |

Easy fix: jam a toothpick or an ice cream stick or whatever between the case and the power button.
But if you want it really fixed, you need to replace the switch. With the older 8833 and the 1084, I used to replace those with PC/AT power switches (pushbutton kind). With a little coaxing it was possible to fit them in place of the original switch. The PC/AT switches last forever, but if you replace it with a switch like your broken one, it'll die again at some point. Another easy fix is to bypass the switch entirely and use a power strip with a switch to toggle the power on and off.. Oh yeah and you UK guys also have those little power switches in your outlets, so you could use that too. |

Yes. The 1084/8833 powerswitches are very low quality and I've seen lots of them with a broken locking mechanism (IE. won't stay on :-)

Try rigging it to stay on and then turn it off using a surge strip. I do remember seeing somebody selling a replacement switch on ebay a while ago, I do not know how often parts like that show up.

Nice one lopos - I may replace it although I've got it jammed on through an extension lead with a power switch now, as suggested.
£11.23 though ... dunno about that ![]() Bit of a bargain I think - It's nice to see games all dotty and with scanlines. Just the way they should be... Thanks for all your help everyone |
