Waxworks remake

To my surprise, Youtube randomly pelted a video at me about a remake of Waxworks from a couple of years ago (okay maybe not so random, I was watching a video about gruesome video game deaths and there is no game with more gruesome deaths than Waxworks). Where did this come from?

https://store.steampowered.com/app/7...the_Ancestors/

I can just see the thought process behind this. Amnesia is a popular horror franchise. Waxworks is kind of like an early day Amnesia game but with combat and gruesome deaths. Let's remake it in the style of Amnesia!

Too bad it looks a little TOO much like Amnesia, including the sloooooooow gameplay and movement. I appreciate how close it tries to stay to the original though. Except, no shockingly gruesome death stills. Yeah what's the point then!?

From the reviews it sounds like the game is quite buggy and the devs have given up on it. Don't think I want to spend 12.50€ to find out for myself. The video doesn't look too bad though.

Only if it ends up in the hands of an indie developer with a really cool idea to revamp the classic text adventure interface which does not involve dumbing it down. Otherwise it'd just become yet another first person walk around and click things simulator.

hell of an update from dungeon crawler to first person shenanigans, i miss the youtube vids of the dev that is/was trying to redo Hired Guns in unity, he got quite far then kinda stopped after doing a GZDoom variation of the first map.

oh hey there you are yeah even now it still looks like amazing work, still not sure which approach i like, your faithful recreation of the original dungeon crawler method looks awesome, the GZDoom approach also looks pretty good.

Also until the recent Amiga Abime youtube channel posted it, i didnt realize there was the unreleased 1998 unreal attempt at Hired Guns, also a great vid to watch.

I feel this way of 99% of the remakes.

More bells and whistles, but the soul of the game itself was never captured.

They really did go all out on the graphics and especially the animations, there is so much dedication dripping from the original. It might not be my favorite game gameplay wise but it is definitely in my top 5 most atmospheric Amiga games.
