Amiga <--> PC Transfer using Linux
This isn't a problem for me now, but may help someone else in the future. I've tried to include all the search phrases I used whilst on my adventure!
I originally ordered the AmiPC kit, but couldn't get it to work with Windows XP (even trying the solutions on this forum). So I decided to try and see if I could do it from my linux install with the parallel laplink cable in that kit. I found this piece of software, APCComm which seemed to be what I was after. The download has the linux sources, and compiled Amiga executables. I had to use cross dos to get the amiga executables across. Watch out for 8.3 file formates so rename apccomm-nogui to nogui and apccomm-test to test, then back again once they're on the amiga. I couldn't get the gui version to work, but the nogui version seems good enough. After building the sources on linux, you have to run /usr/local/bin/apccomm as root. To copy a file from the pc -> amiga type /usr/local/bin/apccomm <filename> on the pc run apccomm-nogui on the amiga I get about 13k/sec To copy a file from the amiga -> pc run apccomm-nogui <filename> on the amiga type /usr/local/bin/apccomm on the pc I get about 33k/sec The files are transferred to/from the current directory on each machine. The timings are from harddrive to harddrive. Hope this helps someone! |
