Sega gamepad only giving DOWN signal

Incredible... I've been trying to connect some Sega joypads to my Amiga(s) but with little luck so far. The only thing I can get from them is DOWN, when I pres A, C or Y buttons. That's it. D pad does nothing at all.

I have also tried with an adapter (pins 5 and 7 switched) but it's exactly the same. Several Sega joypads, not only one.

What's going on here

Are all of them 6-button joypads?

Not really sure.

From what I remember (20 years ago) I had tried a 6-button MD joypad a friend had lent me and it did not work (I don't remember what exactly) while a 3-button joypad worked (with only one or two button though before doing the swap circuit trick).

I think those 6-button joypad work quite differently from the standard 3-button joypad.
So before all, if you can, you should try to use a 3-button joypad and see if things work fine.

The 6 button pad (at least the original Sega) has a "Mode" shoulder button. You have to press and hold it before you turn on the console/Amiga to switch into the standard 3-button mode.

Edit: OK, the "Mode" button is probably only important for older Mega Drive games like Forgotten Worlds, which doesn't work with the 6-Button pad. Anyway, just tried my original Sega 6-Button pad on the A1200 and the D-pad+B and C buttons works fine with the most games.

Happy

I forgot to press the Mode shoulder button on my keyboard when I started typing my message, which makes it add random negations in my sentences

Thanks, fixed the mistake.
