Clone/copy drive?

I’ve just picked up an A1200. I have a MiSTer which I’ve been using for a couple of years with WHD Load on an HDF file. If I mount that in WinUAE is it possible to copy/clone the drive into a CF card? If so how would I go about it?

Thanks!!

Yes, you could copy everything with Dopus4, but beware a HardFile "HDF file" is a disk image, this means you can directly write the HDF File to CF.

To do this you have to use a programthat is normally used to Burn a CF disk image.

Some programs that "burn" Disk images require the extension .img, in this case your HDF to be recognized add or change extension to .img.

Before each operation, just in case, create a Backup of your "HDF file"

I don't think you can write a HDF file directly to a CF card unless the geometry is the same? (Which it probably won't be).

Take great care partitioning and formatting your CF card.

Make sure you have the correct filesystem for you (PFSAIO?), set the partition as bootable, set the Max Transfer size for IDE (0x1FE0).

Then you should be able to just copy the directories/files over in WinUAE.

That sounds positive, thank you!

I’m currently formatting using the options you mentioned. Bit of a learning curve but I’m getting there slowly

No it depends on the Software used, as you can see from the screenshot, I "Burned" my 2GB HardFile with AfA OS to an 8GB PenDrive

The Pendrive was recognized and booted normally on WinUAE.
As you want to see on the Workbench, DH0 is exactly the original size on HardFile, the rest of the Pendrive was disregarded.

This is not optimal, but it allows you to bring a HardFile to the Real Amiga

To burn the HardFile, I used the USB Image Tools program

That’s interesting, thank you. I’ll give this a go later.

Is a USB Mass Storage device and WinUAE comparable to CF card and real Amiga?

I'm not sure it is? You've got Windows & WinUAE performing a level of translation between USB the emulated Amiga.

Maybe it is? They are both block based devices.

I cannot test on a Real Amiga, I have not used Real Amiga for 30 Years, I have many Amigas including an A4000/060

I do know, though, that some of my Hardfiles that I created for some users also started on Real Amiga.

Try anyway not what nothing !
