Help with Amiga 500 AddHard by Ashcom Design
Hi All
Put up for ebay 45Mb ADDHard and it work? So guy the problem is plug it in to the A500 and then turn the machine on and it boots to a window, but not to WB, I type in Dir as showing in picture so I can access the drive what I can see looks like WB not fully installed look at this web site http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/addhard to find some software it tell me Notes doesn't seem to work with software that scans all units (e.g. HDToolBox) - instead, HDInstTools or the GVP FaaastPrep program can be used: device driver has to be loaded into RAM first, by issuing "version ADD_SCSI.device" HDInstTools / FaaastPrep has to be called with device driver and unit as parameter ("ADD_SCSI.device unit 0") I download this software for a web site but it is not working I have boot for floppy drive with WB 1.3 or 2.0 and operating system can not see HD So can any one help with this plz it has been 26 years since I installed an external drive on A500 . . . |

You don't have to prepare your hard drive, it's already formatted and the system sees it.
You just need to install from Workbench disks. Use the Install Disk that came with Workbench 2.x However it might be that the drive is not bootable, from the looks of it it has no system on it only data and some commands, so you MIGHT have to change the partition so it becomes bootable. Try creating an S folder and a startup-sequence inside with a few commands and see if teh system executes it. Even making a startup-sequence that says inside Code:
echo This is working fine |

What about the "install" command? Is that floppy only? (I wouldn't run this until someone who knows chimes in.. :-) Or might an "install dh0:" help? Not sure that will make a difference, it's been more than 20 years since I've used that command and don't really remember it too well.. ;-) Good luck. desiv |

I wouldn't use "install" first (dunno if it works, I thought it was just for floppies), as I said, make an S directory and a startup-sequence file to see if it's booting.

"Install" is only for floppies. On hard drives, you select whether a partition is bootable by checking a box in HDToolbox (or your equivalent).

If it's MFM (8-bit IDE), your options are much much smaller.. Hopefully SCSI.. Then you can just raid some old 68k Macintoshes.. They loved SCSI hard drives.. desiv |
