I was thinking that when you browse for inserting a disk 2 floppy in a game that does not support more than 1 floppy drive that it would be good that the browsing would open up in the same directory as the first disk and not wherever you last opened a floppy file so as to spend less time searching your drive for the directory that the second floppy is in.

but I have come up with something better, why not when the game prompts you for the next disk (and you already have say all 4 disks in each drive) and the game does not support more than one drive that you could press say shift and 2 3 or 4 and it would put either disk 2 3 or 4 into disk drive 1 and maybe winuae could press fire or a mouse button so the game automatically accepts
the disk without any input.

or maybe both options together would be even better!

It's a good idea, although I'm not sure the automated putting-in-of-disk is possible, since is there any way of telling that the emulator is waiting for a disk? And hang on too, what if it's going from disk 1 to disk 4 (like in some adventure games), then putting in disk 2 automatically would be pretty fruitless!

Maybe I'm just being a pessimist, but you see my point I'm sure!

when you insert disks in the drive numbers (DF0 you could probably remember what drive you put disk 4 in (for example) and by pressing f11 and 3 (DF3 you would be able to swap drive letters, the game would then be able of detecting the new disk on the fly.....

handy but not a huge feature,

a frame capture would be good thou, you press a button and it outputs a screen grab to a folder in WinUAE (for people without extra graphic programs)

also

a mod ripper, like winfellow

Damn fine idea, I'm sure it would only take Toni 10 mins of coding ;-)

Seriously, I'd love a mod ripper but in the mean time you can use the Action Replay rom to do it.

Just create a save state file

I understood, but I know I wasn't very clear...

Create a save state file and feed it to ripping software. State files are straight RAM dumps (+cpu registers and custom registers) and are not compressed (yet)

What could be done (at least in windowed mode) is to open a separate window with all the disk images pre-inserted belonging to a disk.
This is especially essential if you play games that have more than four disks.
Wait a second...

Lightbulb here it is! :)

Hey Ryan, that's my idea:
(e. g. playing Monkey Island 2 which has, you guessed it, ELEVEN disks to handle...)

Note: I'm an AWFULLY BAD designer ...

Hey This is a really kewl idea and you can even code this as a tool for WinUAE, you don´t even have to change the code ! Just use VB and the SendKeys command It would not be very nice, but it would work ...........

I've also been frustrated at having WinUAE always default to the last directory that I loaded ANY adf from, regardless of the config that I'm using. Having looked at a bit of the code, it seems that WinUAE uses a registry entry to keep track of where you loaded the last adf from, and always uses that for the default for the file requester to begin searching from. Personally, I'd like to see this stored as part of each config, rather than in the registry as that would offer more flexibility. Just my two cents worth.

Thanks for the kudos, but I think you DO have to change the code. For the Monkey Island example, if you need disk 11, you have to unassign disk 8 or disk 9 for example, and of course I want WinUAE to recognize the disk change!
Otherwise this would only be a bauble.
