Monkey Island 2 WHDLoad Save Problem

I was recently playing MI2 and saved my game onto a 'standard floppy' I created in WinUAE.

To test it had worked, While still in the game, I reloaded my save and there wasnt a problem, the save loaded fine.

Today I loaded the game in to continue where I left off and when I insert the save disk into DF0: and press F5 to bring up MI2's load/save window, my save game file comes up ok but when I select it and click 'load' I get this error

'Invalid size allocating temp 1 size -6'

The game then quits back to workbench

When I created the 'Standard floppy' I named it 'MI2save' but on the workbench screen its called 'empty'. I dont know if this is relevant or just normal but I thought Id mention it in case.

Anyone got any idea what the problem is?

Why would a whdload install want to save to floppy?

I am not used to saving with WHDload at all and thought it would be fine :/

Retroman gave me the impression it was an option

Unless the readme for a game specifically states some special method for saving they should pretty much all save to hd without any messing about.
I just tested MI2, and when it asked for a blank disk i simply typed in a name for my savegame and pressed ok. It saved (and loaded) fine

With the game being patched to save to hd, it's probably not meant to work from floppy anymore.

This is just a guess though, I'm sure Codetapper will correct me later

You may be able copy your savegame off the floppy and straight into the mi2 dir and hopefully that will work.

You said you tested your save and it loaded back in fine. Does it load back in AFTER you have quit the game and loaded it up fresh? because MY save to floppy worked fine until I came to load in back in at a later date.

Also, how do I do this?

I didnt bother to investigate it before because I went for the easier option of a floppy

Thanks for the help BTW

It saves to the monkeyisland2/data dir by default, no need to mess about with tooltypes, however I did reload the game and tried to load the savegame..and got exactly the same error message.

The install is over a year old now, I can't see it having this problem all this time..perhaps it's an issue with the newer whdload versions?

Hopefully Codetapper will impart more wisdom upon this soon

Note that what Retroman was talking about was specific to the Heimdal slave, not a global WHDLoad option.

I've had a look at Monkey Island 2 and on my 68030 Amiga 1200 the game doesn't even work! The game doesn't seem to respond to clicks at all, so I can get through the intro by pressing Escape etc but once it comes to the game, I move the cursor around and click and Guybrush doesn't even move. The previous version of the slave does the same thing.

Sorry I can't help more - the only way I play those Lucasarts games is by booting in ECS mode and running the normal cracked versions I'm afraid...

So if I wanna play MI2 I have to use the adf version? Is that what you mean?

Im amazed that with a game as popular as MI2 this problem hasnt come up earlier.
