A520 tv modulator on A1000???

Hi ppl

possibly a dumb question, but since i have neither the A1000 or the A520 TV modulator on me at the moment, thought i would just throw it out there.

Will a A520 TV modulator work on an A1000, is the monitor connection different on A500s & A1000s?

The Big Book of Amiga Hardware shows a separate modulator for the A1000, but this could be an earlier model of the same thing it definately looks different and has an extra function "2 input switching"

it has been such a long time since i have looked at either modulator or my 2 A1000s (there at my mums).

ive got a strange feeling its the middle one
i hope im wrong
I think one of my amiga1000s has one of the rear ports blocked with plastic, cant for the life of me remember which port

I just got offered an A520 tv modulator and havent run my real amigas since about 93-94 last of my 1084s finally blew couple of years back

I get the amiga bug once every year or so and this time emulators just arent gonna cut it

The A520 should plug straight into the RGB port.

The one with RGB written under it

You then have two possible combinations.

Use the rf out, in which case you need the Y-splitter cable that takes the sound from the two white audio outs and plugs into the side of the A520.

Or use the composite video out from the A520 and use the two white audio ports for the stereo sound. But by the looks of it the A1000 has a composite video out anyway (that white one on the far right?)

The 2nd option is better, but if you're TV supports RGB Scart, try and get an amiga rgb scart lead.

Hope that helps

sorry i cant make out which one says rgb
are you saying its the first questionmarked port??

im not sure what the last one does but i wouldve tried it over the years since i had my vcr plugged into my monitor that way

or maybe not, but why would amiga 1000 come with rgb leads for the monitor if you could feed the composite straight into it

i think it mightve been a black&white signal but im not sure now

as long as the tv modulator plugs into that first port the audio can go straight to my amp

I'll let you know what the end one does in few days when i try it

The RGB port is the first question marked one on the left.

I never said it came with an rgb lead. I said you should use one. Composite picture quality is far inferior than RGB, RGB is THE best way to get a signal from an amiga to a tv/monitor.

I've looked around and you can indeed plug the a520 into the RGB port, so there is no problem!

As you've found out all three of those are video. The far right (RCA jack) is composite video, the middle is RF/modulator output (which can also be used for composite), and the left is the standard Amiga RGB.

The composite (phono) jack standard on the A1000 i think is monochrome output composite only, not RGB composite.

Correct me if im wrong.
