About CGI:IRC, IRC trolls and EAB accounts (again)

I've recently stumbled across this: vBJirc Java irc integration for vb 3.6.x

It uses PJIRC, which I've used before and which is a very good Java IRC client applet. It also sounds like it would be perfect, in allowing access (optionally) only to logged in members and even automatically generating nicknames from their EAB logins.

Just something to think about, in the light of recent severe web-IRC related spam attacks (I believe we've already discussed the issue before) and the general problems people often have with CGI:IRC.

I'd actually also like to talk about the IRCd in the context of spam attacks, but I'll save that for later.

THBIRC is better than PJIRC or KGIRC

And we could ban forum trolls like THB here from EAB and IRC at once.

The goal of cgi-irc is to have one irc access through web, in order people behind work firewall can connect. I think a Java applet won't let those user to connect behind firewall, because it's basicely a regular irc client.
Now, I'm agree there is a problem with anonymous login, so I will implement soon a eab's login check to only let our community use this service.

You are right about that of course. I hadn't really thought of it that way.
