Blizzard 1230 Mark IV 32mb

As mentioned on a previous thread I have just aquired the above and have been advised to post the problem here. Slight problem is that I think and hope that I'm right in saying that I don't think my Psu's are up to the job. When playing Doom or Gloom (great stuff) after a few minutes the screen cuts out for a couple of secs then comes back on, the game continues and then the blacking out gets more and more frequent until it stays black. Or is it a heat problem ? Also when I tried it another 1200 it just could not boot off the CF. Disconnect the CF and it booted fine from floppy.Machines work perfectly well with a standard ram card. Any advice?

For the dark screen problem: it is indeed a heat problem, probably on the RGB output resistors or a cold joint the connector.

For the CF issue: some brands does not work on the Amiga, no matter what. You may cure the problem using another new hardware, called TrueIDE

Many thanks but the CF card works fine if I remove the Blizzard. If I put in the 1st 1200 with the Blizzard I can use it for a while until the screen starts playing up. As mentioned though in the 2nd 1200 it just won't boot with Blizzard connected - weird. I have 3rd 1200 which is my main machine, I will try the card in that.

Hi Dagger,

Did you feel the chips? Did they get very hot? Mine on the Bliz just get luke warm even after long use at load.

I think also its worth trying a stronger PSU, if you have an A500 50w you could try that but you can't beat a modified ATX PSU.

Steve.

Unfortunately I just have 3 standard PSu'S although one is the heavy type. The main CPU on the board does tend to get warm but perfectly touchable to keep your finger on in it so it's not to hot.

Update

It must be heat as I have all my items set in my loft where the temperature can get very hot because of the heat on the roof. Well this morning I had another crack at it because it's cooler and the machine ran perfectly well I had a good 15 minutes on Doom and then a crack on the speccy emulator and it all played really well no black screens. I will go back up there this afternoon when it's really hot again and see if the problem comes back.
