Net NTP Sync package

AmiTimeKeeper is an Amiga dedicated NTP client. It runs as a commodity in the background and can operate without any user intervention.

Have a look at:
http://aminet.net/package/util/cdity/AmiTimeKeeper

Remember to adjust your timezone in The Locale Preferences as NTP servers use UTC and know nothing about you geographical location.

Does it have a built-in mechanism to figure out DST?

Unfortunately not. It relies only on the The Locale Preferences as show on the AmigaOS Wiki pages:
http://wiki.amigaos.net/wiki/AmigaOS...h_Localization

Specifically: "The Time Zone indicator tells you how many hours from GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) your zone is.

As a commodity? It doesn't appear to run as a commodity, at least I don't seen any traces of it with Exchange.

It is suppose to show up like this on OS3

And like this on AROS

Try to start the program from shell with parameter VERBOSE=3, e.g. TimeKeeper VERBOSE=3, and examine the output.

AmiTimeKeeper version 1.09

AmiTimeKeeper version 1.09 has been release with a new set of features. Most notable is support for daylight saving time.

Support for daylight saving time is accomplished by picking up content of the TZ environment variable. Users of SetDST will already have this variable set. The TZONE variable as known from AmigaOS 4.x is also supported. Be aware that TZONE does not specify when time zone transition occurs.

The TZ variable format is POSIX compliant. For most of Europe the value would be:
CET-1CEST,M3.5.0/2,M10.5.0/3 (or CET-1CEST-2,M3.5.0/02:00:00,M10.5.0/03:00:00)

This is interpreted as Central European Time (CET) and Central European Summer Time (CEST), the normal offset from UTC is 1 hours; since this is east of the prime meridian, the sign is negative. Summer time begins on March’s last Saturday at 2:00am, and ends on October’s last Saturday at 3:00am. If the offset is omitted for DST as in this case, it defaults to one hour ahead of standard time.

Enjoy this new version, and please send bug reports and other feedback in this thread or directly by email.
