Blizzard 1230 or 1260?
Is 1230IV-50 enough for general gaming and demos or is 1260-50/68 more recommended? I know the price difference is like double or triple but I'm considering to get 1260.
What can 1260 do that 1230 can't or struggles? Any advice? Thanks |

For general gaming stick with the 030, 060 only needed for specific 060 demo's and if you want to play 3D stuff like Quake or do very intensive CPU operations, thinks Emulators, productivity software, etc.
030 is still pretty capable and perfectly fine for moderate productivity work and basic emulators |

060 is mostly for watching scene demos, I'd say.
Personally I'd never bother, given their ridiculous price point. |

060 is for deep pockets, if you have the money to spare then why not? they only appreciate. 030 is good enough though for gaming needs. I've got both and would have to stick with my 060 if I had to chose one of the other though.

Quite happy with my ACA 1230/56 but if I had the money I'd go for an 060 or perhaps even an 040 if it were an option.

This seller has both and I want one. As he is not far away I'll test both and see which is good enough. Usually I want the best

The 060 will be slightly less compatible with some games, but usually WHDLoad can deal with that. If you use productivity stuff or Workbench/DOpus a fair bit the 060 will make a huge difference, and certain games will benefit greatly from it, but if all you're playing are games designed for the A500 or a basic A1200 you might not see much improvement, and the 030 might be a better option.
I'd never give up my 060, but I also have two A1200s with 030s in them and I wouldn't bother upgrading them to an 060 either since they're more for simple tasks such as WHDLoad gaming and running a MAS player. |

Then buy 1260 ;o) You can play all games, watch all demos so simply you can do anything what A1200 can provide. With 030 you would be limited, because since 2000 most of the AGA demos and new games are rather for 060 (PC FPS game conversions or orig games like Crossfire2, Payback, ...).

Also if you want to run Linux or Open/NetBSD, the 060 will be well worth it.

I have no expirience with the 060, but got a Blizzard 30/50.
The A1200 got a new lease on life with Indivision AGA Mk 2 and PCMCIA CF card for file transfer. |

That was my next question. How do I test these cards? Do they have its own testing software? What to check on the cards?

give majsta and Apollo team a year or so and you will see a noticeable price drop of these 060 cards

I dont doubt Apollo or [insert name of next big FPGA accelerator] will make a great product someday but with Amiga hardware you will always be waiting just two more weeks. Sometimes you need to jump on the bandwagon and enjoy what's available today, not wait for tomorrow forever.
