FastATA 4000 woes

Hi all,

I did assemble what I think to be my ultimate A4000 with an A4000TX, zz9000, BFG9060, 3.2.2 ROMS and a FastATA 4000 (with a 8.0 BootROM).

I use the FastATA for my system compact flash, no other device is actually connected to it.

Problem is that I'm unable to use the FastATA past PIO-0 speed.. As soon as I enable something faster, I get ton of corruption, read problems and gurus.

Any idea what it could come from ?

Just curious, as I am also building a 4000TX, why not use the onboard IDE for your CF boot device? That was what I was going to do. I also have a FastATA but will start out simple with the build once I get all components I need. Still need case and PSU.

Not sure I understood correctly your question but.. to have something faster than the onboard IDE.

Have you tried a harddisk instead of CF or a different Adapter?

Tried with another CF adapter than the provided one, same story. Also tried with another CF card, with the default adapter and the 3rd party, same. I also moved the FastATA to another Zorro port but it had no effect. I even tried different 80pin IDE cables.

I'm using the FastATA MK-VI 4000 CF/SATA (A3000/A4000) with 8.0 BootROM and AmigaOS 3.2.2 (with kick 47.111 on EPROMs).

SanDisk 32GB Ultra, also tried on a SanDisk 16GB Ultra and a Kingston 4GB CF.

Using FFS from 3.2. Tried with pfs3aio DirectSCSI with same results.

I will get in touch with them and refer to this thread. It might give them a hint too.

Thanks for your help.

With FastATA it shouldn't be necessary to change MaxTransfer value. At least for my FastATA 1200 + HD this is true.

There is no such thing. MaxTransfer is a unit size, not a speed limit.

Speed is set by PIO mode in the FastATAPrefs program.

The FastATA 1200 suffers from its handicrafts nature. It sits on the motherboard IDE port and without its driver software it is driven by the Kickstart IDE driver which indeed has a MaxTransfer issue.

The FastATA 4000 is a true expansion with its own ROM, indepentent of the motherboard IDE and its Kickstart driver.

You mean it sits on the kickrom sockets. The motherboard IDE port is free.
