The Sacred Armour of Antiriad
https://www.goodolddays.net/game/id%...-Antiriad.html
It is one of those games which sound highly fascinating, but which nevertheless I'm happy about that my partner in crime played it instead of myself. I suck at these games and hearing about them from someone who can appreciate them better is more interesting them going through hours of frustration on my own I'm pretty sure there are fans here...? There's an extra ] in the link.
I think I played this one on the C64, but it's over 30 years ago. Might give it a try tomorrow as I remember it to be quite fun to play. |

This was one of the games in the era, when game names were just cool. Other examples:
Equinox Exolon Cybernoid Eidolon Starquake and so on. It was always some mystery behind the name, expectation of something exciting. |

Antiriad was not fun to play, just like Cauldron II, due to poor controls. When you are out of the armour it's about as playable as Dark Castle.
The rest of the game is fine but it is annoying to play because of the rubbish controls. |

I enjoyed it at the time on my Speccy but it's aged badly. Had great music from the late great Richard Joseph though.

Probably should have mentioned I only played the C64 version back then. It was on the Hit-Pak 6-pak compilation by Elite. I think the Amstrad versions has the same controls but I've never seen other versions.

The only good thing in Antiriad is the music. the game itself is shite.

I remember when it came out!
I had the demo, wanted the game.. only because of how cool the name sounds. |

Played this game at the time only on a friend’s CoCo 3, and giving this system’s tradition of unlicensed ports, it was named Rad Warrior.
If only I knew at the time that it was also available for my Speccy… :/ |

I played this game in his ZX Spectrum version,
good music, great graphics, good animations; but very hard when you are in barefoot. The player attack pattern based in throw stones is not very effective due to stone´s trajectory As InmortalA100 stated, its fun when you acquired energy cells, boots, and punch in order to use the armour... but until this point you will suffer a lot. I always liked the game, even though it’s not really that fun to play today. It’s like a proto-metroidvania back from when these sorts of games were still called action adventures. You’ve got to love the use of the Iron Maiden font for the game's logo, too.
I think the game's historical significance can hardly be understated. If I’m not mistaken, Antiriad was the first game Dan Malone created graphics for. You know, the same Dan Malone who would go on to create the visuals for Cadaver, Speedball 2 and The Chaos Engine, thus co-shaping the Bitmap Brothers' distinctive look together with Mark Coleman. |
