WinUAE 4.4.0 unable to write to CF Card fix?

I was also having a problem with WinUAE 4.4.0 when creating partitions on my CF Card.
After some experimentation I found a setting to set the HD controller to full drive/RDB Mode.
This fixed my problem. I am now able to partition my CF card with version 4.4.0.
To set the full drive / RDB mode:
- clean the CF card with diskpart
- run WinUAE as an administrator
- add the CF card as a hard drive. When selecting the CF card there should stand [UNK] in front of it. If not then make sure you cleaned the card with diskpart.
- after selecting the CF card set IDE (auto) and click add hard drive
- click on the CF card and choose properties
- you now should see a button "full drive/RDB mode" after HD controller:
- click this button to enable
- click oke

After I enable this "full drive/RDB mode" I was able to create the partitions on my CF Card.
Make sure the card is cleaned. You should see [UNK] in front of your card when you select it as a hard drive in WinUAE.

YOU ABSOLUTE LEGEND!!!!

I've been pulling my hair out the last three days using two different computers, two different CF readers, and three different CF cards without getting anywhere. This did the job!

Hi there!

Sorry to revive this threat (although it's less than 1 year old ), I'm trying to format and install AmigaOS v3.2 on a new 32GB microSD card but the card doesn't show in the Amiga although I added it following the same steps as Heerschop and it "shows" in the WinUAE config panel... what should I look at to find where the problem is?

Thanks in advance!

PS. Before I "diskpart clean" the microSD card, it was formatted in FAT32 and WinUAE and the Amiga could see it but I couldn't format it within the Amiga. I "diskpart clean" it and it shows as [UNK] in WinUAE as expected (?).

PPS. By "the card doesn't show in the Amiga", I mean that it doesn't appear on the Workbench and it doesn't show into HDToolBox (v3.2).

Further tests allowed me to see and partition the microSD in HDToolBox but I still cannot see it on the Workbench:
  • Add the microSD as before but select uaehf.device
  • Boot on the AmigaOS v3.2 CD-Rom
  • Start the install...
  • Copy HDToolBox into the RAM and set the tooltype SCSI_DEVICE_NAME to uaehf.device
I must be missing something

Did you run WinUAE as administrator?

Yes, as I followed exactly the steps by Heerschop: I selected "Run as administrator" and a requester appeared asking me to confirm before running WinUAE...

If other harddrives in the list are shown as changed, you have to save changes on them first.

The best is to add the SD card first and all other harddrives behind it.

Hi Thomas!

Thanks for your advice but I actually only had the CD-ROM and this microSD.

Should I mount manually the microSD when it's "connected" uaehf.device after partitioning it with HDToolsBox?

Best!

When you say, you cannot see it on the Workbench, does that mean you can see it elsewhere, for example in the DOS Info command?

Is the card brand new? Could be the "no disk in drive" issue. https://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p...63&postcount=3

Hi Thomas!

Thanks for your answer

I can't explain what happened but it works now

After I managed to partition the microSD card using HDToolBox as uaehf.device, the newly-created partition didn't show in the Workbench (only in HDToolBox). (I didn't try Info unfortunately.)

Then, I switched off WinUAE and unplugged my microSD "reader" and put my PC to sleep.

Now, I plugged back the reader and the microSD card and started WinUAE with the partitioned card connected by uaehf.device and the partition showed in the Workbench!

So all in well
(Now installing AmigaOS v3.2 )
