Haven't tried it yet, but Aaron posts about the development on Mastodon quite regularly: @aaronsgiles@corteximplant.com
Looks really promising and I'll sure try Dark Forces on it soon

Apart Grim Fandanco and Escape from Monkey Island, every other games run at maximun speed on Dosbox.
Nice idea to find some alternative way to run LucasArts games

indeed
the FAQ part is imo very interesting to better understand the correct place this is trying to cover

https://aarongiles.com/dreamm/docs/#faq

seems indeed much closer to DosBox than ScummVM, approach talking

Yet it has a curated list of supported games much like ScummVM It's an interesting approach and while DosBox is more versatile, it can be a bit of a pain to set up properly especially if you aren't familiar with DOS.

I used it on day1 release and tried every compatible game. It does work and it is pretty good

I made quite a few vids of each game...

It supports X-Wing, interesting. I wonder how the gamepad support is.

Just downloaded DREAMM and X-Wing. It detects the gamepad and starts the calibration when you launch the game Very convenient

trying Dark Forces atm

about the emulator itself, seems working also in a win7 PC that im using atm
it's interesting the detect + emulated install thing

having a cd game inserted (or virtually inserted) seems the better way to start all

X-Wing is one PC game I really should play, as I loved TIE Fighter Collectors CD once I finally got a PC. Spent a fair bit of my first summer holidays as a PC owner working through the main game. Played Dark Forces a bit too, but don't think I got so far.

I love projects like this, real 'because I can and I want to' development, aiming for its own niche between ScummVM and DOSBox.

It's really cool to read the development 'diary' as the project develops. It shows that Aaron is really interested in how those games work and how to get that working in his emulator. Here's one post from today:

I see both Shadows of the Empire and Indy Infernal enable fog in their 3D rendering (which I haven't implemented yet).

Instantly reminded me of how heavy-handed use of fog was a popular way to hide "pop in" for early 3D games where you couldn't afford to render out very far.

Both Shadows and Indy had Nintendo 64 ports, and the N64 devs I knew especially loved to leverage fog for this very reason.

yeah, he likes to describe some code tricks used back in the day
there is a funny phrase on docs, something like ' i'm trying to emulate my own games '

a reconfigure controller buttons option seems missing for now, hope it will implemented in future

ie Dark Forces uses the default joystick configuration, missing the keyboard 'jump' key

I noticed it also bypasses copy protection in Last Crusade English EGA version while Scummvm requires the manual.
