FastATA MK-IV, software necessary?
Hi,
I've had an Elbox FastATA MK-IV in my A1200 for many years now, and it's been working fine with the 32GB CF that's mounted on it. I have however switched out AmigaOS and kickstart ROMs a couple of times since, first to 3.1.4, and now lastly to 3.2. What I have not done though, is to install the Elbox' FastATA driver, and so far, I have not noticed any difference in performance. Maybe because I use my Amiga so seldom. Am I missing out? Does it even work with OS 3.2.2 (seeing as the ATA3.driver is from 2013)? Thoughts? UPDATE: So, what ended up happening was that I did some more searching and I found [ Show youtube player ] that in turn talks about Making Elbox FastATA work alongside AmigaOS 3.2. Conclusion: It makes a huge difference. I ended up installing FastATA'99v11.5a3.8 (which Elbox says is for MK-V, but seems to work fine for MK-IV) on AmigaOS 3.2.2 (47.4) with Kickstart 3.2.2 (47.111). I went from around 1.7 MB/s to about 5.3 MB/s measured by the included DriveSpeed utility, after I changed from PIO 0 to PIO 3. I'm not brave enough to try PIO 4 yet, as I've read some horror stories about that. I hope this post can be of help to someone. Last edited by albatorsk; 26 March 2023 at 21:08. |
