Amiga TV ad - robot guy, boy playing Another World...

Anyone remember this TV ad from the early 90's? I'd guess 1992. It was just before I got my 1200 in 1993.

There was this kid playing on his meega and he was playing Another World. He was at the end bit where there is all this stained glass and a big fire fight. The rock gets shot out and he falls.

While he plays this Terminator style person is walking down these dark streets, hunting him down (i don't know why). I can't remember what happens at the end, but I think the robot guy blows up because of something the kid does in his game.

I always remember the way the kid plays the game. He has the joystick far off to the right so he has to stretch to play. Weird

cheers Retroman. I found the advert but the kid is playing ALien Breed and not Another World. *shrugs* maybe they had multiple versions.

Antiriad: I think the robot guy blows up because the amiga is just so cool. He holds his head then blows up. Maybe the sounds just blew him away

Hey there -- sorry to revive such an old thread. But indeed, I did rip it back in the day and upload it to The Commodore Billboard (archived link). That thing got used everwhere.

However, me and my buddy figured we could do better, so after some work you can find a HQ version on YouTube as of today! Enjoy!

[ Show youtube player ]

I'll upload it to the Zone later this week.

Thanks! :-) Got a new source tape from eBay and access to way better hardware and post-processing software which made it a lot easier to get better quality. The old one was just simply dumped with a VideoCD recorder.

Truly an impressive end result considering it originates from an early 90s VHS rip!

Awesome commercial. Funny how the kid is "playing" Alien Breed, he's holding the joystick in one hand and essentially just randomly walking into any enemy rather than shooting them

Which is how I play!

I think the idea is, going from the Terminator franchise, that the robot is sent back (by rival computer company?) to destroy the Amiga as it's too advanced/more powerful than rival offerings so they could succeed in the future without Amiga spoiling the party.

There's some adverts nobody has even found yet, I think the one with Stephen Fry narrating with the ducks on the wall for the C64 Computer Compendium is one, also an Atari 800XL with a Commodore character too (think Mac vs PC adverts with Justin Long as Mac sort of thing).

Somebody kindly ripped most of the C64 and Spectrum adverts from VHS about 15-20 years ago via a private site called thebox.bz back then trying to preserve just about everything ever shown on UK TV.

Cannot remember that ad - only one that remains in my mind is with the tune of Zoe's sunshine on a rainy day playing

It's the Sunshine on a Rainy Day one from Christmas 1991 (in which I'm pretty sure the kid was playing Another World) that I remember. Weirdly, although the song was a pretty big one-hit wonder here at the time, I'm not sure I've ever heard it again.

I remember that ad, wasn't this around the time the borg we're in TNG? I remember thinking it was a bit of a rip off.

I remember the CD32 ad also, wasn't there another with Bart Simpson game?

Commercials were known and even expected to reference things like pop culture. It was a novel idea invented in the 80's and somewhere lost in the naughties called "having fun with it".

I wish that would still happen a little more often, maybe Youtube ads wouldn't cause your nose to bleed chunks of brain.
