Benchtrash on WB3.1 does not start

Hi,
I'm a little bit confused. The readme for Benchtrash says:
Code:
Architecture:	m68k-amigaos >= 2.0.4
Requires:	3.9 recommended
So I'm expecting it to work on 3.1 but it just doesn't. I've tried it on my main system and a fresh installation. The icon doesn't show up.
I also tried it with a WB3.5 workbench.library but still nothing. It works fine on 3.9 though.
So, I guess the readme is wrong!? I couldn't find anything about the requirements in the guide.

Also, the guide is mentioning a Configuration Window, which I can't get to show up.
I've tried clicking twice on the AppIcon and the actual Benchtrash icon. The AppIcon just opens the trashcan window.

From the readme:

Quote:
New in version 1.75:

Release 1.73 was the last official release, back then copyrighted by Amiga
and included in Os 3.9. By contract, copyright returned to me after two
years, hence this version is again a freeware release distributed under my
original licence.

As far as the features are concerned, nothing changed. This release only
fixes a bug for drawing the trashcan icon which did not set the condition
codes correctly when returning from the image drawer of intuition.
So apparently all versions after V1.73 were only tested on OS 3.9 and I guess, probably by accident, some new requirements sneaked into the source code without notice.

I've seen that as well but I thought it was meant to be used on 3.9 only until he got the copyright back and the versions after that added support for lower WB versions. Well maybe that was the case and then the requirements changed in a later version.

If I have to be honest, I never understood the usefulness of recycle bins on Amiga, one expects to find deleted files in the recycle bin, but this does not happen

Maybe it needs ClassAct installed, since it mentions using a ReAction GUI?

I do have ClassAct installed. I just tried it by using a workbench.library 45 and that works. But even on a a full 3.9 installation, I don't know how to to open this mysterious GUI.

Not that it really matters though, I'm not planning on using it (since I mostly use DOpus4 anyway). I just wanted the icon.

I was using a different tool before, which hooked into the DeleteFile function and moved files to the trashcan when deleting files with DOpus. But it also broke DOpus option to delete protected files.

Just double-click the icon on the desktop.

That opens up the Trashcan window not a Settings GUI.

You can actually configure where BenchTrash puts its files. In the recycle bin is one of the options. Where the recycle bin is is also up to you to configure.

To answer the question of the OP: Yes, the GUI requires reaction. Without that, you don't have the GUI, but the remaining parts still work and you can configure the tool by its tooltypes.
