CD32+SX32 to PC network options

I am researching options for networking my CD32 with SX32 to the PC for file transfer (not concerned about getting internet access on the CD32 or anything like that).

The two options seem to be a parallel port network or a serial port network. I understand the parallel port might be quicker, but the software I found on Aminet for this had not been updated since 1995 (http://aminet.net/package/comm/net/parnet).

Serial port option would probably necessitate buying more hardware, though I might have a serial card for the PC tucked away somewhere.

Has anyone done this before and if so what can you recommend? thanks.

Speed wise it would be quicker and easier to just an a CF card to your SX32 in place of the IDE hard drive.

Use an IDE->CF adapter inside the SX32 and a USB CF card reader outside

If you still need network access...

Someone put together a boot disk called Hombre with a collection of the best file transfer utils

I considered this but taking the SX32 apart each time is too inconvenient. I know that either option isn't going to be very fast but I only need to transfer small files, for larger files I can burn a CD-R.

I'll look at the options available in your links, thanks.

I just use CD with mine. With the right software its just like dragging and dropping to a USB stick.

Yeah if you can get the CD32 to access CDRW then that would be the perfect solution.

I use serial, with a home made null modem cable, a external USB serial port on my laptop, and Amiga Explorer software. Works well, transfers an 880k ADF file in about 2-3 minutes.

Easy and simple.

I've got Amiga Explorer working now too, with a £2 USB to 9 pin serial and my old Siamese System Serial cable. Very handy program. What's the highest baud rate you can push it up to reliably, in your experience?

56k is the actual limit when using the serial port (Amiga or SX32), when using the 8n1 "driver" from Aminet.
