Looking for a PC floppy drive for Kryoflux

Has to support up to 83 tracks, of course.

Thanks.

For best results, look for a Sony MPF920-E (or a couple) on eBay.

Ignore the 84 tracks, only VERY (2?) games make use of that.

Get a TEAC with a solid body. They are great, too. The rigid body will make sure it does not get misaligned when e.g. screwing it into an enclosure.

Didn't know there could be floppy drives with 84 tracks. And now I want one.

Ebay?

Edit: Any particular model of TEAC floppy drive you'd recommend?

84 tracks (as in 0-83) is quite common. The Sony MPF920-E uses a solid chassis too and handles 84 tracks.

The TEAC is simply another good choice.

Mr.vince didn't recommend it to the exclusion of all others.

i was just eyeing up the Kryoflux today, as i've just won almost 100 coverdisks through separate auctions. Some of which aren't on AMR so i'm hoping my miggy will read them for preservation purposes, if not i guess i'll be hunting for a Kryoflux, so if i get a dead disk, you have about a week till i'll need to start bidding on a suitable drive to go with it (no rush! haha) :P

Yup those Sony mpf's are great! Got a lod of them and even converted one for direct amiga use. I have one Teac pc drive here I bought back in the day and covet that thing lol. I have it attached to a catweasal mk4.

I knew my hoarding would pay for itself eventually

Quick question: How many tracks do they read?

Enough. I'd always take a drive that delivers a good read instead of as much tracks as possible.

The MFPs are not ideal for DD writing, but suffice in most cases. As said before... The TEACs are pretty well, too.

In the future, consider giving a recommendation that meets what the person asked for, instead of deciding for them.

Perhaps my question was poorly worded. I did not state that I have an actual need for the drive. It is a good floppy drive, it just doesn't meet all of my needs.

How many tracks does yours read, then?

(To be clear: 84 tracks is 0-83, 82 tracks is 0-81, etc.)

So what are your needs? According to the thread's title, "get a 3.5 PC compatible HD drive" would be appropriate.

82 vs 84 does not make a difference, except for two games on the Amiga, but hey, what do I know. I was actually under the impression you were looking for advice.

This "Sony MPF920-E" (or so the sticker claims) reads tracks 0-81.

No, I just got the numbering 1-84 versus 0-83 mixed up.

You are entirely correct, I am looking for advice on a good 84-track floppy drive.

Hopefully, that makes things clear.
