OS X Quick Look plugin for IFF ILBM images
OS X users can install this plugin and enjoy thumbnails and previews of amiga iff ilbm images seamlessly integrated in finder.

Cool, is there an emulator accurate enough for coding on a Mac? I have no clue about Amigaemus on the Mac.
On Windows, ACDSee still works a charm after all these years. You can even browse pictures without associating a file suffix. |

FS-UAE is a good and accurate emulator than can be used when developing on mac.
For image duties there is a program called Xee which reads and writes various formats including ilbm. Unfortunately Xee does not integrate with quicklook and that motivates the existence of my software. (On windows, XnView is a good alternative to ACDSee) |

Thanks a lot for this!
I'm not sure if this is an error or intentional since ILBM has no notion of transparency (I think), but I noticed that color 0 appears differently depending on where QuickLook acts. In the file info window it looks fine, in Finder it appears in the correct color but with high transparency, and on the desktop and otherwise as an icon it appears in full white. @Photon: I would also recommend FS-UAE. It takes a little while to configure, but there is a GUI launcher and the emulation core is up to date with WinUAE. |

Glad you like it! ILBM images can have a transparency mask, or a transparent color. Of course there might be bugs in my software, so please send me the image you're talking about and I'll see what I can do.

i know this thread is a couple of years old but sadly (already).....
"The requested URL /2013/03/quick-look-iff-ilbm-plugin/ was not found on this server." Anyone have a copy of this? I used to have this installed on my old mac and found it pretty useful. |

I doubt writing a quicklook plugin is hard and, I know someone who could give it a look this weekend.
Is there an available open source library which supports all IFF image formats? |

Nice, the iff plugin posted by CardboardSphinx seems to have been written by Dalton of demoscene group tulou (http://tulou.org).
Does by chance anyone know if he has made sources available? I have not been able to find anything via Googling. |

I guess this proves that my googling skills need "a bit" of improvement. Also I realize that I made a complete fool of myself with my first post on this thread when mentioning Dalton since well, he created that very thread! I'm actually laughing out loud at my own blindness while I"m typing this. Well, live and learn! Thanks again! |

Copied iff.qlgenerator to library/quicklook – et voilá, the Macs Finder now displays .iff-Files. Also, Xee3 opens them. Convenient and an excellent timesaver!

Looks like the link to download the plug-in is gone. I'm not sure if this will even work on later versions of macOS.

As far as I gather 3rd party Quick Look plugins still work in macOS.
I cloned this and it compiled fine in xcode. Installed it, and it is listed by qlmanage. But in Finder it has no effect. For .iff files Kind is still "Document" and pressing space nothing is displayed. |

I have moved from my old iMac (where the plugin worked flawlessly) to a 2020 Mac Mini. There, at first, Finder did not show .iff-Files but an error message. After opening the file iff.qlgenerator in library/quicklook/ by hand (rightclick, open) once, Finder now displays .iff-Files again; and I can open them with Xee3 to export them etc.
