If you goto www.whdload.de, many of the installs for demos will direct you to the version they support with a link.

Thanks, the http://whdload.de has only the installer for these demos. I need demos that are already converted into WHDLOAD format, and are ready to be played on Amiga.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Would the demos run on the machine it were written for, or will they need three times the resources to run them?

Why don't you just try the demos on the machine they were written for? You'll see that they'll run fine without needing much more resources than the original demos.

From my own experience, running about ~200 demos, I found out that many of them have problems, especially the old A500 ones.

I'm not an Amiga coder, but from what I understood its usually related to waits added for faster CPUs.
On my two 68030 machines this resulted in very buggy effects (partially seen, not seen at all or just random junk on the screen, sometimes with flashes) and also slowdowns, especially in vector parts with lots of action in them.
There's also a problem with some effects running too fast & losing sync with the music, compared to their floppy version running on an A500.

I also tried running nearly all available demos on an unaccelerated A600, I figured they should run correctly on their originally intended CPU.
Wrong... it seems like most of the slaves dont detect the CPU so patching is applied on 68000 too, which results in major slowdowns throughout.
I started making lists of all affected demos, but at some point the list became so big that I just gave up and ended up going back to floppies, but thats just me

Hi,

I was just wondering about this too. Is there up-to-date archive of whdload preinstalled demos somewhere? Whdownload and Killer Gorilla's sites are somewhat outdated missing many recent install packages.

This is, quite frankly, wrong! A lot of the patches have been updated to run fine on 68000 machines.

If you don't mention these problems to anyone, they are unlikely to get fixed. For obvious reasons.

I posted this 10 years ago (time flies!) and things have greatly improved since then.
Still, these days I use a dedicated stock A500 setup with Gotek for OCS demos, the way they were meant to be seen

Hello I have just purchased an A500 mini after having previosly owned an A500 and 2 x A1200s and was just wondering if there were any active sites hosting WHDLoad Demos as they are quite tricky to find compared to the games.
Main ones I'd be after are bacteria, budbrain 1 and 2 Megademos , State of the art , 9 Fingers and Jesus on Es if they are available in this format.

Thanks for any help

Even as non registered MEGA user, you should be able to grab all the demos without hitting the download limit.
I think daily limit is around 5 gigs for free users, if I'm not entirely mistaken.
